VTA PH-16 Project.

Hi to all.
looking in my electrical junk drawer I found a non tin solid wire that could help to my project, now the OCD question, Tin vs non Tin wire is important?
thanks for any experience advice.

Bare copper can corrode from the end of the wire into the wire covering.
All it takes is one tiny bit at the end exposed. I've stripped old copper wire that was green all the way through to the other end.

Nice. How did you cut the rectangular hole? The preamp I've gathered parts for has two adjustable regulators,.one for each channel that mount on tall TO-220 heat sinks.
I was thinking of screwing the heatsinks to the top plate, drill a hole centered under the heat sink and run wires from the regulators through the holes to the PCB.
My hands aren't steady enough to cut a rectangular hole with one of my rotory tools.
 
Hey, nothing sophisticate here, just a bunch of small drills and then a good square file. the aluminum is not thick as I wished so it was an easy task to do. always keep tracking checking with a Vernier, specially files that are new remove a lot of material.

I have a rotory tool that has a foot pedal to control the speed. I use it to cut holes for power sockets and such. Step bits and hole punches for sockets.
I recently found a huge step drill bit that will go to 52mm (2").
I have 6 of them now that can drill various sized holes. They work great for aluminum.
I use forstner bits on thick aluminum so I can get the nuts to fit selector and control shafts, pilot lights, etc. I relieve enough on the front or back side as needed.
Even though the bits are for wood, I set the speed on my drill press to the slowest speed and drill a bit, brush the fillings away, and drill some more using oil to cool the bit.
I had to relieve the back side of one for the selector and pilot light, and the front for the volume control in the picture below. Forstner bits make a nice smooth hole with a smooth level bottom.

With a soft angle bit aluminum is easy to cut without chattering.
I have a dewalts set that each bit has a pilot and the bit itself is like a end drill bit having much better passing through.

Carbide wood bit are a good ides too!
