I munched on 2 Wallyeye sandwiches last night. I anoint them with Steen's Louisiana Cane Vinegar......Yamma-Goochie!!!!!!!
Purchase it direct from Steen's it is cheaper.

Well, I found out out local (AZ) Culver's has the walleye samiches so, I know where I'm headed tonight!

Thanks for the tip!

I did go by and get one last night. It was pretty darn good but could have used a bit of seasoning. I'll have to doctor it up a little next time.

The link to Steen's. This is my go to vinegar it is the best. It tastes like a lite italian balsamic vinegar, only much better. Put this on your Walleyed pike sandwich and your eyes will roll up in your head. Same for fish n chips,

Aren't walleye bottom feeders down in the mud sort of thing. I would think mid-level and top level feeding fish would be much better tasting.

i never caught a walleye off the bottom.

i grew up walleye fishing in wi.

we used a syringe to inject air into nightcrawlers and a slip weight so that they would not sit on the bottom of the river

Pan fried walleye and wild rice I had the other night at a northern Wisconsin supper club. Way up dere, almost in da UP. Uff da!

That's old fashioned Anishinaabe Ojibwe fare there, Tom. We didn't "do frybread" or the other guvment shite up at Bad River or the Apostle Islands.

PS: Incidentally, a good-sized and edible (it was delicious) walleye was the first "big" fish I caught, I was about 9-10, not too far from Hayward (Wisconsin), somewhere out on the Chippewa Flowage.

Nope, they are not considered to be bottom feeders. Their eyesight allows them to feed on prey near the bottom of deep and turbid waters and in low light conditions. As far as bottom feeding fish are concerned, catfish are considered to be one of the tastiest and most consumed freshwater fish.

For some reason, I always thought walleyes were caught 6 inches to a foot from the bottom. I guess I didn’t mean they were sucking mud off the bottom of the lake.

Grew up catching and eating walleye in Ohio, PA and Canada. Now Lake Erie produces an amazing amount of them annually and is considered one of the best places to fish for tasty (smaller ones) and trophy walley..... Growing up so close to "the mistake on the Lake", few folks ate any fish from Lake Erie - perch, walley, small mouth, salmon, catfish, etc - but the concern/stigma has reduce a lot over the last +25 years....

If you haven't had pan-fried walley and pancakes yet, I would suggest you give it a go....... My dad made us this for the first time back in the 60s (I thought he was hung over the morning he made this in our truck camper) but it is still one of the most memorable and best breakfasts I've ever eaten. This was way before I ever heard of fried chicken and pancakes....
