Here's an article about the old Metro Club on Lincoln Ave.
I figure I went there for a period of about 25-28 years total!
I knew Pepo well, he always treated us like family, and usually got us drunk every time we went.
Their food was superb, so was the Beers, and Pepo always had some special goodies up his sleeve at the bar.
Pretzels, and home smoked Debrozine Sausage to die for from Joe's Homemade Sausage on Western-Montrose Ave were always served as free snacks.
Metro Club was said to have the "biggest Schnitzel" in Chicago, yep, Veal, tender as butter. Their Praga and Hunter Schnitzels were some of my favorite dishes, always enjoyed them.
It took some years later for me to discover that Pepo passed away the same year I moved to New Mexico, in 2003.
Him, his wife Annie, and very lovely daughter shall never be forgotten. Nor the good times we shared.
