What bourbon are you drinking today?

Weller Special Reserve is decent bourbon if you like wheated bourbon. It's the same mash bill as the Weller Antique, Weller 12, Weller Full Proof, et al. And, even Pappy. The differences are aging, barrel location in warehouse/rickhouse, and bottling proof.

But, yeah, preferences vary and one certainly could find something they like at least as good or better and perhaps at a better price point especially as you go up the ladder.

One example could be Larceny vs. Special Reserve. They're both wheated bourbons but have different flavors. Larceny is common around here and relatively inexpensive. Weller is not so common in these parts and comes at materially higher price.

Maker's Mark is another wheated bourbon one could throw in that mix with yet again different flavors.

On a side note, for the first time in quite a while yesterday I saw boxes/cases of Buffalo Trace and Eagle Rare in open stock. But at $45 for BT and $75 for ER was an easy pass. Probably won't ever be this way again but I fondly recall when I first started into bourbon store picks of ER being $25. Store pick BT a few bucks less.

Great break down. I am new to bourbon and definitely not a wheat guy. The SR is $22 at my store and ER is $42. As a newbie I'm on break from ER since an extra ounce or two after beers ruined me for a couple days. I will say Blanton's is a dangerous bourbon for me, no alcohol smell or taste but catches up very quickly.

Picked up a bottle of this special for 2026, 8 year Wild Turkey 101 yesterday. Had a taste last night and compared it to regular 101 (which is supposedly 6-7 years old).

It lives up to all the hype.

I just had some of the best bourbon I've ever sipped in my life today. I ordered some game fish food for my pond online and picked it up from Tractor Supply in Covington, TN. After I got it, I decided while I was in town I would check-out one of the best liquor stores that I have ever been to. It is called "Whiskey Business" and they have a huge selection of bourbon and the prices can't be beat.

I'm always looking for unusual stuff I've never tried before or good stuff that is recommended to me by others. As I was browsing the big well-stocked shelves of bourbon I came across a bottle of Old Forester "Barrel Strength" Single Barrel selection. I have seen these before but noticed two things about this one. It had the name of the store on the label (indicating a custom store selection) and it was also the only bottle I saw in the entire store that didn't have a price tag on it.

I was curious so I took the bottle to the front desk to ask how much it cost and get the story behind it. The owner had a big grin on his face when he saw me bringing it up. I asked him about it and he told me it was a special selection just for his store. I asked him how much it cost and he told me it was $105 and it was limited to one per customer. $100 is about the usual limit for me when it comes to bourbon and it wasn't my intention to buy $100 bottles while I was there. I think he saw I was about to put it back on the shelf when he asked me if I wanted a sampling. I said, "You betcha!"

He poured me a little plastic sip cup of it and handed it to me. I took a smell and knew right off it was something special. I drank it and it was fantastic. That's all it took for me to buy it. I ended up walking out of the store with $250 worth of bourbon but this one was da bomb! 135 proof and delicious.

Now's a great time to stock up on bourbon. Prices have dropped significantly. There's a surplus of aged bourbon and once VHTF brands are now not only available, but also affordable at or near MSRP. Here's one that used to be a lot harder to find and boy is it ever "M'm! M'm! Good!”

That's my normal sippin' Bourbon, but our bottles out here are silver labeled. Great at $40 a bottle.

I would have bought a couple of them if they were $40 a bottle where I get them. I paid $49 per bottle.

Going through some cabinets in the basement and hiding behind an old coffee pot I found a bottle of Weller Antique. Has to be at least 10 years old. Not a winning lottery ticket but enough to put a smile on my face. Bourbon season doesn’t commence for me until after Columbus Day, but still looking forward to it.

Does your bottle have the old label, the gold one, and in the short squatty bottle?...my bet is 10 years behind the coffee pot hasn't affected it one bit, it should be the same as when it was bottled.

Tried this single barrel allocated store pick today for the 1st time.

Pretty-awesome! Nice smells, delicious with a moderate after thought "burn". 119.7 proof. Will definitely buy again.

Anyone else here doing an "infinity bottle"?

I've got one going with left over pours and dribbles from various bourbons and it's about 1/2 full. I'm going to wait until it's full before re-pouring.

So far, I've got Maker's Mark, Wild Turkey Rare Breed, Elijah Craig, 1792, Old Grand Dad, mmm - a couple of others.

When you "upload" a picture you are taking a picture and uploading it to be saved on the forum. When you download a picture you are simply posting a link of a picture that is being hosted elswhere. In the case of the first small picture of Wild Turkey 101 8 Year, it is being hosted on the internet on another site. I simply pasted the link in the command window. When you click on the "insert image" icon, it gives you 2 options. Upload or link. Choose link and post the internet address in the field and the image will be displayed.

Same goes for the 2nd picture I posted. It is from an earlier post I made in this same bourbon thread. It was uploaded before the issue started so it is currently being hosted on this forum. I simply right-clicked on the image and then clicked "copy image address". Then I pasted it into the "insert image" link command box.

If you have like a Facebook page or something on the internet you can upload the picture from your phone there and then copy the link and paste it in the insert image link command box here. Or you can wait until they fix the upload issue here (which hopefully won't be too much longer).

After some technical glitches here on AK, here you go @allmanbros this is the bottle of Old Weller i found in the basement. It appears to be a Buffalo Trace bottling from 2006 according to the stamp in the bottom of the bottle.
