What is YOUR pet peeve? Let's have a laugh.

Local PBS station is doing another beg-a-thon and saying numbers on the radio, reminding me the word "and" should never be spoken when saying a number. Consider this example:

"One hundred and one."

Now let's illustrate how cumbersome this can be:

"Six billion and eight hundred and thirty-two million and seven hundred and sixty-six thousand and four hundred and ninety-eight."

Now let's look at how that number should be spoken:

"Six billion, eight hundred thirty-two million, seven hundred sixty-six thousand, four hundred ninety-eight."

WTF is going on with the programs that have the same amount of time doing commercials as programming?
Last night , Dec 11 , I watched the "Yellowstone 150 Years" story on the Fox News Channel and there were commercials that were equal to the program time! That is 3 minutes of commercial and then 3 minutes of actual program AD Nausium.
The same story on another program also , "Freddie Mercury The Final Act" documentary on PBS. Five minutes of program and then Five minutes of commercials. It is getting to where I would rather watch a program from my DVR where I can fast forward thru the annoying commercials. Four one hour programs in three hours that way.
When are broadcasters going to realize that that many commercials will turn off viewers , or is it that the broadcasters do not care as long as the money get raked in !
What do you think ? ? ?

Companies and their "caring theater". Both to their employees and to the public.
The ones that wear a certain color to show 'support' for the group, but never give a dime to the causes.
The ones that tell their employees that they care at a free lunch but then find ways to keep from paying them for holidays and any other way they can squeeze pennies back out of them. If you have to tell your employees that you care and it is a fun place to work then neither are true.
The mega rich owners that talk about how they will be donating their massive fortunes and then layoff tens of thousands of their employees.

Our Tablo instantly skips commercials without us doing anything (except they are phasing that out) and it is awesome. It doesn't even fast forward, just one second the show is breaking for a commercial and half a second later the show is back.

But they are running a lot more of the in program commercials where it takes up the bottom of the screen.

You guys with indicating the ever increasing commercial intrusions into your desired shows, confirm my, thankfully foresighted, choice to totally & completely turn my back on all outside sourced commercial TV of all types in 2010, so not to be annoyed/enraged with the undesired/unwanted product/services crap thrusted upon the viewing public that is conveyed to me here !

I perfectly love my total control of my evening`s visual entertainment, via my choice of optical media (BR/DVD/laser disc movies, selected sitcoms, documentaries, and concerts !!! No annoying crawling banners, or station/provider ID icon/avatars either !

Now when my selected movie has pre movie previews, a quick push of the remote control`s next button as many times as needed will thankfully bump ahead of all that annoying movie companies advertisement conduit, to be possibly considered after I`m through with the movie and any special features present !

I`m truly grateful for the ongoing information/complaints I read on A/K about the continuing degradation with commercial based video entertainment, that helps me remain happy about my choice to wean myself over 12 yrs. ago, and I`m sincerely grateful and thank you folks from reminding/refreshing me what crap is being thrust at the suffering commercial TV viewing public !

I feel for the suffering commercial TV addict Vidiots !

Respectfully, Billy Ferris

People who can't use a turning lane properly. They either don't get into the turning lane entirely so then I still have to change lanes to not be stopped or they get in the lane then think they are driving a semi I guess and swerve back out, and almost hit me as I'm going by, to make a really wide turn.

Excuse me you are driving a Honda Accord, you don't need that much room. Happens all the time in town.

I like to make the tailgaters mad by driving slower until they finally pass or if I'm turning soon I make sure to take my time getting out of their way.
I do one better for the infuriation effect. Just get off the gas and let engine braking very slowly reduce my speed until they have had enough. The most extreme example was a 45mph stretch that i was down to about 20mph before they whipped around me.

However, you need to be careful. If a cop witnesses this kind of behavior, you can be cited for holding up traffic.

Companies are selling goods and services on the radio by telling us how woke or patriotic they are. Seems like every other commercial defines their company by their hiring practices or how they support veterans. There's no problem with how a company wants to spend their profits or who they want to work there. It just tells me their product must not be good enough on its own.

Here's a pet peeve of mine. Literally it's just a Sony ICF-P27, analog tuner with DSP tuning. I have a P26 which is the same thing, just completely analog. There is nothing special, "unusual" or "unique" about them. They're just basic pocket radios.
