What's British in your system?

They're not clones. B&W only makes 800 series (and the Nautilus) in the UK. Everything else is made in China.

They sound great. A little weak on low bass (6.5" bass drivers, what would you expect?) but mids and highs are very clean. I use a SVS 3000 Micro sub with them set to 45 Hz and it fills in the missing low bass very nicely.

Just listen for any change of dialect in the voices. They must have that certain...uppity to the overall results.

On the serious side, has no one bought any of the newer Whares as of late? I've yet to do any look-see on reviews, and was hoping to use AK as a springboad of knowledge before buying a set.

Some are. Some are made here… the most obvious clue to origin is the price. Also those made here have ‘made in the UK’ printed on the label.

I’m not sure that’s right. As far as I’m aware most modern Wharfedale are new designs by Peter Comeau. Modern ‘retro’ Wharfedales have little in common with those of yesteryear aside from names and aesthetics. So.. products like the Linton and Denton were designed relatively recently in Huntingdon and then built to that design in China. The latest design… the Aston is made in Huntingdon. Or so I’m lead to believe.

Having the "Quad" 33pre&405amp, I've always had a keen interest in this English line of gear.

In 1997, the rights to design and all aspects of this past British company had been sold to Chinese interest (IAG).

If you do a follow up on the video "The Quad History" (youtube.com-22minutes), it does an excellent jog of taking you through how the company got started, and the resulting progress of "Quad".

As well "Wikipedia" does a fair job of some of the "stats" related aspects of this audio gear.

Also, if you go to the "IAG" firm sales pitch, it gives you an idea how it has changed/modified and the direction its taken since the takeover.

Huntington still does some repair/maintenance, but the manufacturing of the units was moved.

I was musing the other day that the rest of the chain is a perfect fusion of my two identities: Japanese front end (Micro-Denon-Luxman) and a British, ahem, back end (Audion Silver Night from when they were still based in the UK, Spendor S100s).

Seem to be be working together quite nicely.
