Why 8ohms on old subwoofer?

I stuck a camera inside my Sansui sp200's and I am wondering why the tweeters and midrange speakers are 16ohm and the subwoofer is 8? 8 is great but why?

First - not a subwoofer - it is a WOOFER. A subwoofer driver only goes to 120-150 Hz maximum. Woofers can go as high as 5K.

The tweeters and midranges are wired in Parallel to get and average 8 ohm load.

Yes it is a woofer. The squawkers are not chained though.

If you trace out the wiring to the crossover, you will see that the mids are wired in parallel if your speakers are wired as others are. Two 16 ohm drivers in parallel are equivalent to 8 ohms.
