WiiM WiFi Streamer

Hi: Thank you so much for your interest! Very much appreciated. Yes. I have turned on streaming using both methods in the material that you sent. Presumably that is why I can cast MP3, WMA lossless and WAVE files. I only have issues with ALAC (my predominant files) and FLAC (my other files). I may try turning off the firewall, but that would not be an ideal solution. I wonder if this could be a Google Mesh issue.
I was not suggesting you leave it off.

Are all files in your Music library in Windows?

I am trying to be logical here. It would not seem to be a firewall issue since I can cast ALAC and FLAC files to my Yamaha WXC-50 streamers. It would also not seem to be a WiiM issue since you can cast ALAC files created in the same way that I did to the WiiM. And I have the same issue with the WiiM Pro and Pro Plus.
I am at a logical impasse.

I have the issue with my files in my Music file and those on an external hard drive, both.

I suspect this difference is because when casting to the Yamaha WXC-50, WindowsMediaPlayer uses the MusicCast protocol, and when casting to the WiiMs, WindowsMediaPlayer uses DLNA protocol ... but rather than get tied up in technical details let's just use some simple logic;
Windows Media Player and WiiM are not playing nice! So I suggest for the WiiMs you avoid WMP and use some other DLNA controller application - you have an iPhone, right? Install mconnect Player Lite (free) -
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/mconnect-player-lite/id507379024
and with your iPhone connected to the same network, it should see your Windows PC as DLNA server, and WiiM as DLNA endpoint.
Now go ahead and try to play your different types of audio files.

Hi and Thank You. Much appreciated. I did this download. In the app's "Browser" it does show my PC as a Local Server. When I go to "Play To" it shows my two Yamaha streamers as UPnP devices. When I hit the cast button in "Play To" , I see my two WiiMs. However, when I cast from my PC, I get the same results for ALAC and FLAC files. A I missing something?

Great.

I don't know. I simply suggest you avoid using WindowsMediaPlayer and instead use mconnect as playback controller.
I believe the issue is solved. I have been using the WiiM app for Windows. I drag and drop the ALAC and FLAC files into “My Music“ on the App and can play them on the WiiMs. Thank you so much to all for your help.
I still don’t know why I can’t cast as Spark1 does, since we apparently did everything the same. However, I will not expend much thought time on that issue.

WiiM Ultra coming next year, with touchscreen and USB out.
They probably feel they have the streaming software and DAC, now go after the higher end units with a value piece at $399.00 or so and make some easier margin $.

Hmmmm. Maybe they’ll make it affordable…

Too bad, I was hoping one of the streaming services with big pockets..Amazon, Apple.. would buy it and just implement the technology into their service to make an unrivaled all-in one killer streaming app.

As you mentioned, maybe they will bring the price down, but not really sure how it works with their brand. I guess time will tell.

I didn't realize Samsung had bought Harman. Interesting to see what happens.

A couple of years back! They immediately let the chief engineer go, (Greg Timbers, designer of many premier JBL system).
There have been other decisions made, such as limiting the number of spare parts in inventory for older systems and such ...

On November 14, 2016, Harman entered into an agreement to be acquired by Samsung Electronics. In February 2017,
Harman International shareholders voted in favor of the acquisition by Samsung. On March 10, 2017, the acquisition was completed,
with Harman becoming the independent subsidiary of Samsung.

Honestly, I think a “content neutral” owner like Samsung will be much better for customers than a subscription content providing owner like Apple or Amazon (who will do everything they can get away with to steer you toward their paid monthly subscription content, and everything they can get away with to make their competitor's paid subscription content run a little worse, or be a little more inconvenient to use).

This is kind of the same situation as video streamers -- while Roku isn't perfect, I vastly prefer Roku to Amazon Fire or Apple TV just because Roku is largely content neutral and won't favor or intentionally harm any individual content providers.

I have all of the main streaming devices and prefer AppleTV, but I don’t want to derail the thread with a comparison, so we can chalk this up as preferences. I will say I mainly use third party apps with it and they work fine.

That being said, if I could pick the company that would add Roon, it would be Amazon Music. I think their interface is one of the worst and would have a lot to gain by adding Roon. They have Alexa Casting which would allow for hi res steaming ( a benefit over AirPlay) with the Wiim. They could bring back the ability to put your music in the cloud, so it would be a perfect fit for utilizing Roon that way, as well. Also, voice control with Alexa, would give it another benefit.

Personally, I don’t see the benefit of having Samsung/HK owning it, but maybe they have plans down the road to start a music streaming service? I have no idea, but if it is just the old Roon with a similar price tag, but with a different owner, I will stick with my current music options. If they did create a music streaming service around Roon, I would definitely give it a try.
