Yamaha NS-1000 what solid state would suite

Anyone using a Pioneer Sx-1050/sx-1250 with Ns-1000

Im interested in if anyone is anyone using a Pioneer Sx-1050/sx-1250 with Ns-1000 and what your thoughts are.

The sx-1050 is at 120 WPC and sx-1250 is at 160 WPC, this is more then enought for a 100 w speaker, but these pioneer units are receivers and a stand alone amp without a tuner or preamp might sound better.

Who has this setup?

MX-1 yamaha could work, but all a bit to new?

I'm not sure what you mean by 'a bit too new?' If you're attempting to maintain an era specific match, then you're right, but from a performance perspective that's not an issue. It's a full dual mono design that's stable down to 2 ohms with all the overhead you'll need for NS-1000/Ms. I'll try a B-2x someday, but am very happy with my MX-1 for the time being.

I have all of these, but I am not going to try them until the next time I feel like risking a hernia lugging any of those beasts from one room to another; they are at nearly opposite ends of my apartment!

My guess is that they would sound pretty good together, although if there is anything wrong or sub-par with your receiver, the NS-1000s will reveal it!

Using a receiver with Ns-1000

Currently im using a pioneer Sx-1050, but Ive been told im waisting my time with such a receiver and should get a stand alone amp which does not have a AM/FM unit or preamp in the same case

That is true. The reason is simple: The SX-1050 is arguably one of the worst sounding receivers ever made!

May I have yours please?

You already have great speakers. If you want take advantage of them, you have to spend a little more...

The SX-1250 was not the worst sounding receiver I have ever heard. However, it was not interesting and with some genre's, rather dull. I sold mine after a couple of weeks.

I have a Pioneer CT-F1250 cassette degk. It doesn't sound that great (I sold them when they were new and was not impressed) But it just looks cool!

Same with the big Pioneer receivers of the same time period - regarding looks - The sound is "good enough for me though.

If sound quality is an issue, I don't listen to cassettes.

Not sure how to interpret that response. So your saying the receiver is crap. The only vintage stuff ive had is pioneer sx range to date. There seems to be a big following?

Me thinks it was a joke. You know..."Gee, that thing is terrible. Why don't I take it off your hands (so I can have it myself)."

Hence, the smiley...

I got my B-2 repaired recently, and adjusted DC and bias. All I can say is that its incredibly with a pair of NS-1000's! If you can find one and get it up to specs, I don't think you will regret it :thmbsp: :D :music:

Heh, heh. I was joking. That product line of that specific era is my all time favorite, looks wise. That line was, In my opinion, the end of an era. It is the 1959 Cadillac convertible of stereo equipment.

I like this picture. Heck, enjoy this!

Yeah i figured out you were joking :D, however there are so many who think the Pioneer sx-XX50 were crap. These units look gr8, however i have never had anything else to compare them to.

Im considering a Yamaha B-2 but a bit concerned regarding the vfets and if they die i would have a brick.

Whats your thoughts about running two sets of Ns-1000 of on B-2? I think there are A and B speakers

I could always use the sx-1050 as the preamp and use the B-2 to power one set of speakers. I could also split the sx-1050 jumpers of the preamp to use the sx-1050 power amp to power the second speakers. So the sx-1050 could power one set of speakers while the b-2 powers the second lot of speakers...that might just work...:scratch2:

Unfortunately, the preamp in the SX receiver is OK sounding. To get the best results, you are going to have to get the matching Yamaha preamp or some similar high-speed preamp. The M-2 has a 4 ohm rating so I think that would drive two pairs of NS-1000's fine.

I am the wrong person to ask. I am HEAVILY biased against expensive and, specifically, tube mplifiers. So much so that I am somewhat ignorant of many of the nuances.

I'm not sayin' I'm right, but I am no longer knowlegeable about any differences that may have become significant over the years. One of my core values is a strong belief in the law of diminishing returns.

Above a certain dollar firgure, the law of dimishing returns is definitely in play. For example, spending thousands on cables and interconnects to get the last nth degree of SQ falls into that category. However, why settle for the cheap stuff and staying very low on the S-curve when spending a few more bucks will get you fairly close to audiophile?
