I want to use the back surround speakers and not the surround speakers!!! Am I not clear?

Why? If it doesn't work, it doesn't work? Connect to the "surround speakers" on the AVR and place the speakers anywhere in the room you want... even in the back, if that's your desire. Maybe it's a sequential thing with the AVR, meaning it won't send a signal to the "back surrounds" if it doesn't detect "surrounds" are connected. Besides, different sound effects may/will be sent to the "back surrounds" and you'd miss the "surrounds" sound effects if you skipped them.

It is not clear to me. If you want to use the Surround Back (SBL & SBR) speakers to play back the sound from the Surround (SL & SR) amplifier channels, you can do that. It should work just fine.

If you hook up the SBL and SBR speakers and you hook up the RPL and RPR speakers, you can do that too, however; according to the manual, "The surround back speakers and rear presence speakers do not produce sounds simultaneously. The unit automatically changes the speakers to be used, depending on the input signal and CINEMA DSP ..."

The 2080 is supposed to be able to run a 5.2.4 system!!!!!!!!!

If you have a 5.1.4 or 5.2.4, you cannot use the SBL and SBR speakers. You can only use BL and BR speakers. Not sure why this is!
