Your Speakers and Your Wife

A fellow addict. :thmbsp: Does she have her own AK account? :D

Not yet, spends her time playing Candy Crush???. Loves that tablet I bought her.

Now did make it known she likes the Marantz better then the Onkyo in the bedroom. Likes the AR2ax's better then the Heresy's. Hard to argue with her IMO!

You got a Golden Ear in your arms. Enjoy the music together. :thmbsp:

Although my wife and I are soulmates of sorts, we are still and always be two distinct people. I would never try to change her art or anything else she enjoys and she would never try to change anything about my hobbies.

I have one simple but steadfast rule to abide by. No big speakers or subs in the kitchen rig no matter how good they sound. Each and every other set up I'm free to do as I please.

I guess I should be more appreciative of my wife and her views of my hobby's. She really doesn't care. She says I'm Martha Stewart on a Harley. She doesn't want to decorate or even be much involved. She buys me records. The only thing she voices a negative opinion on is Harley motors and too many vintage guitars and accessories. But I can always go to a spare bedroom with a dedicated walkin closet full of shoes and she Changes the subject and backs up slowly. I think she spends more on shoes than my hobbies combined. Her money is her money so I have no idea, but she logged my phone onto her eBay account and her pair a shoes I saw cost a lot more than my phono stage.

ta-dah! :D That's me and my baby about this time last year :smoke:

speaker pics are unnecessary ;) there's no comparison!

Wow, you folks look just like we did when we were starting out together! We've been married for 52 years and STILL loving it! You look great together.:thmbsp:

I had some Vienna Acoustics Beethoven's, and they were well liked. She just laughed at my Wilson Sophia 2's. She thought they looked liked little robots. Now they've been replaced with Sonus Faber Amati Futura's and she loves the look. The cost was high, yes, but very good for family harmony!:smoke:

Somewhere between the Khorns, thiels, Altec model19s, Jbl 250 TIs, and other big speakers, I realized I have a jewel of a wife.

My stereo resides in the formal living room; biggest, best room acoustically. I had B&W Matrix 3's, tall narrow things, wife hated them. Too modern for the room.

I scored a 1962 vintage "hi-fi furniture" set; 5-foot console with separate 4.5 cuft speakers. Actually much larger boxes than the B&W's. I put JBL 136a's inside, 2420's on wood tractrix horns sitting on top. Re-stuffed the console with better gear.

She LOVES the look of it. And I have much better sound, and I keep building/ modding better gear all the time.

Just a pain finding gear to fit into the narrow bays of the console; my SACD player has to sit on a stand in the open.

Speakers and your wife hot topic 20 replies in one day!

Poor girl, may have to have surgery again? Had bowel perforate on good Friday at 3pm. Same time Jesus died!

My wife bought me my speakers for my birthday and they're huge! Aren't I lucky?? But that means I can never replace them.

I'm very sorry to hear of this and hopefully she'll be ok. This puts things into perspective of just how meaningless our material possessions really are.

I get gentle nudges from my wife now & then..."When are you going to repair the Altecs?" She likes them big 'ol Model Nines :) Although she is quite fond of the ADS sound currently in use.

She's also the one who came up with the idea for my present audio "rack". When we replaced our 32" CRT with a flattie sitting on a loboy credenza she wondered what to do with the big black Sauder "entertainment center" that had become superfluous. "Couldn't you build shelves where the TV was & store CDs & stuff there?"
Done. Gear in the rack that was already on the left side...TT sitting on top. Works for us.

My wife loves my audio hobby to an extent. As far as gear goes she really doesn't care unless it starts to get crowded, and I hate clutter so that works for me. I have huge IMF speakers and she looks at them like pieces of art. They certainly sound great too, of course. It definitely helps that she loves vinyl as much as I do!
