Bauhausler had no ill effects with the advent e-waves with nearly no clearance from the cabinet lip....

I would appreciate some guidance on minimum baffle width for the EWG. I was measuring a pair of 3 cu. ft. cabinets last night -- I've got about 17.5" across before a little lip and edge. That should be plenty wide, right?

Sorry if this has been dealt with -- I didn't locate the needle in this 300-page haystack!

If a very wide baffle is advantageous, the ~26 inches across of JBL 3677 cabinets would provide it, either expanding the existing horn spot or building something to go on top.

This effectively puts a 9V 'bias' on the dielectrics of the caps, ensuring that when the signal passes through the zero point the capacitor does not charge and discharge its dielectric. Or that's what I'm speculating happens. Theoretically this should make no difference at all, but in a capacitor with a lot of hysterisis in the dielectric it might. I would expect any audible effect to be highly dependent on capacitor type. This should make the greatest improvement in cheap, crummy NP electros and very little difference in high quality films with a low DF.

Actually JBL uses the typology in their highest end products. In the crossovers I've seen they typically use solens. There seems to be some debate over which poly caps work best with this, but up till now I havent seen anyone doing it to cheap electros, would definately seem to defeat the purpose of the improvement to me. I'm placing my bet that JBL and the Gurus over on Lansing Heritage know what they are talking about:thmbsp: They seem to have nothing but good things to say about it, at least with JBL drivers. I cant imagine they are doubling the value, then doubling that cap at great expense for nothing, but we'll see.:yes: Perhaps it only allowed JBL to get top flight performance with the solens, albeit by doing the "double double" value thing and save money over a much more expensive choice? I dont know, yet anyway! The resistors arrived yesterday!

well , just to inform that Poor Serbian Man EW will be made with Beyma 12LW30/n ;

it was pretty hard to find adequate driver for BR box ( unfortunately , limited space in my friends living room dictated BR , so any type of TQWT , even if preferred , was out of question ) ....... D220Ti , screw on , is just lately found on our market ......

I hope they will be soon made , box is in production ( front flat , sides and back - curved from one piece ) , russian PIO caps on their way too ....

I would assume so. He's got to keep his screenname accurate. I don't see anyone challenging him for the most potent system on AK anytime in the near future... :)
 
Regarding the charge coupled crossover, I'd like to see some definite benefit demonstrated before I start trading a small capacitor for two large ones. Capacitors have inductance, and 2 1uf ones in series have a lot more inductance than a single .47uf one. Series inductance is what you don't want when you're trying to pass high frequencies. It's not proven that capacitor inductance comes into play in the working range of a compression tweeter, but adding more inductance is going in the wrong direction. It may be that they're on to something and the bias voltage is the best way to get a final measure of improvement in cap performance.
If this was anyone but JBL or a few other highly respectable manufacturers I'd be smelling a whiff of huile de serpent here.

Do you really think it is significant when you compare it to the inductance in the Voice Coils?? How about the series crossover coils in any of the band pass filters?? JBL uses this technique in systems with response well out past 30khz. This would include the 9800/Everest 2 systems.

If you are not sure take a simple 2 way like an L20T and use it as a test bed.

Every network I make is CC. Don't expect lightningbolts and thunderclaps. What you get is better lower level resolution and clarity.

The PT waveguides are constant directivity, and edge diffraction appears to be less of an issue. Many E'Wavers are running them freestanding, with no baffle.

I have found that the 8" square variant measures different on a baffle versus not, and my "Piano" boxed standards, as well, but we're talking "in detail" here.

With so many projects going on in ZilchLab, I haven't been able to make enough room to do more with precedence effect in Everest alignment. Still waiting to score some true perf screen material, but tests with light-blocking shades showed it will work. Just do it.

Like Rob, I build 'em and use them. I've provided the know-how, and demonstrated how/why it works to move the operating point out of zero-crossing, but I'm staying out of any debate. It's subjective, and I can't measure anything. The best I can offer is what Rob just said: "Try it."

That's what I'm thinking. Too many verifications on LHF for me to have any doubts. I understand it isnt going to be like the second coming or anything, but this type of crossover didnt just appear overnight, and is hardly snakeoil.

Thanks for the explaination rob, I really dont know how to explain why it works, seems like the detractors dont really know why it wont!:D

I should have it in operation before the weekends out, but I cant remember if my parts were for the < or > than 95 db version, but if its the > 95 db, I'll stick the 2225H drivers back in for the test drive. May take a while to appreciate the difference, I'm sure based on what I've read that its just an improvement of resolution and clarity just like Rob states.

The idea of charge coupling is intriguing and easily to implement but I don't think Ross voicing his concerns is inappropriate here, nor should it be dismissed out of hand. Does JBL have a white paper covering the idea of charge coupling?

Nor do I, I wasnt dimissing anything...I believe it was my idea that was being dismissed here...but, no prob, nothing to be learned without giving it the old college try. And, much learning comes from these diatribes. I think everyone around here has thick enough skin to have their ideas discussed openly, and I dont mind criticism, lord knows I could use it. If I didnt want opinion, I would have just done it and kept my mouth shut. Some have stated they thought the selenium a "little hot" and I thought it would be interesting to give it a try. I dont mind having the extra caps around if it proves to be a bust in this setup. The "hotness" some have spoken to may be the nature of the breakup modes of this drivers diapraghm and could I guess get hotter with more resolution, who knows. The other reason I want to try it is that I also use JBL 2425H on top of my E'wave at times, and it apparently from what Wayne has told me, it doent have the breakup like Selenium and I am looking forward to seeing how it reacts with it also. Secondly, I am also building the JBL 4430 crossover to make a 4430 clone, and I am interested in Zilch's work over on LHF in older threads where that crossover was tried in CC format. Depending on what I find, I may build the CC version of that one.
