Zilch's AK Design Collaborative - Econowave Speaker

It's called a plane wave tube. I don't remember how we worked out the total length but it was something like 14'. The idea is to keep the signal propagating as a plane wave and to measure it "unmolested" so you're measuring what the horn throat would see. At least that's how we did it at Eminence back in the old days (late 90's)




Don't know about "better" but you can also contact Kim Girardin. He was selling callibrated mics that I think were based on the Panasonic capsule. I believe you can get his contact info through the TrueRTA site.

Thanks to keg and Cosmos I have another pair of waveguides and Selenium 210s. I've got crossover parts on hand for whatever kind of networks I need to build.
I have no idea what these will end up in. There are so many possibilities. I plan to build them up into semi-permanent 'modules' with crossovers. Tha twill allow me to drop them on top of any woofer/cabinet combo driven through a line level LP crossover. There's a wide range of different combos tha tI want to try, from the conventional (Le10) to the absurd (B110). I'm sure it will be fun.

Yes, for the low-sensitivity version.

Take out that 9V battery across the LF input, though; there's no V1 there.

Also, you've shown the generic lowpass; you may want to adapt Jack's alternative variant for LE14A:

That'd be two 30 uF caps and a 2 mH inductor.

Further, I have twice now verified that you'll need the high-sensitivity version of the highpass with LE14A and D220Ti, two 3 uF caps for C3a & b, and R1, R2 per that schematic, or 16 and 25 Ohms, respectively, if you're using the Dayton R's.... :yes:

Thanks, its modest, you certainly have a pile of treasures as well! Thanks for contributing. Hows the 2225H project coming along? I wish more would use the large format JBL drivers, w/o measuring equip I'm stuck with either empirical wildass scientific guessing, or following proven paths. I spent enough money trying to "learn Altec" and dont relish the expense of learning the hardway again:D Next up has got to be measuring equipment for sure.

I'm glad you are going to try the charge coupled version here, and am waiting to hear what you think of its sound. Have you tried CC crossovers before? This was my first try, and there seems to be an improvement to me. It may very well be subjective, but I definately thought it was worth adding to the collective knowledge of Econowave. Keep all informed of your findings.

There should be about 10 or so new B&C DE 250 owners out there, and while I realize that some may have them for projects other than Econowave,(:nono:)
I assume many are e'wavers. I'm still awaiting Zilch's recomended part to arrive from PE, but even with standard E'wave crossover isnt bad.....

Anyone else? Any of you other JBL 4507/4647 E'wavers have anything to report? Or are you just enjoying?:music::thmbsp::yes:

Personally, I think this is the most useful discussion thread I've ever come across. Both for the specific build project and for all of the associated theory and practical speaker building information. I've learned more doing this project that probably all of my previous soldering iron fumbling with speakers in the past put together.
