Hey all, I'm finally trying to start (again) an e-wave after more than a year layoff due to work requirements. I forgot that I needed boards so I built a couple boxes this morning big enough to wire the crossover + the .5 that I will get to later. I missed finding the schematic when I looked while the glue was drying so I copied from a photo off a finished crossover. I've just temped it as I need to sub a 12 for the 13 combo I installed on the low pass side. Meaning I just got through impatiently throwing one crossover together and would like to see where I screwed up before soldering and doing the other crossover.

I'm a crappy photographer but I think the second pic gets close enough. Comments?

I'll just put them in the box and see what comes out. I also have to figure out the SPL so I can figure out what xover to use. I am not sure how to go about doing that if I don't have any equiptment. Any suggestions?

The difference between the two is just one cap and one resistor. Start with the standard, and if you have to dial the L-pad to max to get the HF and LF in balance, then switch to the high efficiency variant.

Thanks Z, that's easy enough. I am starting to wonder if these woofs will go high enough. The Fs being 16hz, they seem like subwoofers. I'll find out.

Thanks! I found the schematic. Had the leads 1 & 2 on the Lpad crossed. I went back and looked at the photo I copied and it had it's polarity reversed. I haven't kept up but I believe I remember the JBL woofs were wired that way or something. May have copied one of those. Still should have figured it out. You must get tired of having to point out what seems obvious to you. Thank you for your patience.:thmbsp:

Yes, the pilot run of PC boards had the HF polarity reversed, for the reason you cite....

I was cleaning out the house today and found a case of the "69 cent PE driver" I wonder how a line array of these would sound with the 6 x 6 wave guide in the middle of the array. Has anyone used these drivers in a line array? Or a line array with the eWave set up? It would be even easier if it were an open baffle.

Ok, I've been kicking around the idea for a while. I've had the parts for a while and thought about taking EWG in a different direction. Today I finally got everything together in one place at one time. I've had these little 4.5" commercial sound speakers (usually used in ceilings for paging and background music) for years thinking about a line array. EWG was the catalyst.

For a first shot, they're not too bad. The little suckers are fairly efficient on their own so with 12 of them I have to run the EWG full out to sound right. I'll probably dig around and see if I have parts for the >95dB XO. The bass isn't earth shaking, but I have it outside right now and there's only 1. Either I thought I had more of these speakers than I really did or I have another box somewhere around here. I'm hoping the latter so I'm still looking.

I had them running off one channel of an Accurian for testing out in the yard. It takes about 15 or 20' for the sound to come together. With the holidays coming it may take me a while to get measurements but I'll get to it someday.

For now, it's a fun project to play with. :yes:

Everyone else: not this coming Saturday but the one after, George and I are going to build the eWave-O-rays with the 69 cent driver (eight on each side) with the 6x6 or 8x8 wave guide in the middle of the array. Which WG do you think sounds better? Thes will be OBs on a 1" x 10" piece of pine.

So do you think this will work ok....or not?

I have the standard WG but want to save that for another project and it is too wide.

No, these will be down and dirty builds. Just for fun. We may be moving into a smaller place soon and I won't have the room for large horns I've had in the past.

So I am trying out differnt options.

OK, after talking to RayW, I am going to stick with just 8 drivers per sid. I was thinking about scrounging up more drivers but Ray thought he had to be too far away from the speakers for the sound to congele (sp).

So, the 6x6 wave guides are on their way here and I need to know if they cross at the same point as the Pyle stock eWave lenz?

If yer only goin' down an' dirty (the thick accent for this from where I grew up would be "dyeen an' derrdeh" ), you can mount the 6x12 standard waveguide on a 10" open baffle with no problem (structurally and sonically).

Yes, though ideally, they may want to be a bit higher.

Nobody has yet worked through optimizing that combo, though I did get a brief look at it doing Spitwad. As it turned out, the primary issue was the deep baffle recess of the Smaller Advent, but by the time I figured that out, I had already moved that design to the 8" square variant....

For the sub-assisted E-wave SR, a nice 12" wooger mounted in another trap cab could really trick-out this DIY awesomeness. Modular Ewave stereo subs would make excellent stands, too. Passive or powered options abound...

I thought about the 8" but wanted to keep the size down to better match the 4" drivers and what ever size baffle board I end up with. I also heard the 6" WG in Ross' little KLH eWave speakers and thought they sounded great. So better to start with a known.

I am working with a program called EDGE. It shows a HZ/SPL graph given the number of drivers and the size of the baffle board. It also has an EQ function that develops a low end EQ if needed to bring the low end up....actually, it brings the higher end down. I should be able to get down to 100hz and I have two very good subs for below 100hz. These 4" drivers go up solid to 5K so that is not an issue.

I will have to play with the placement of the 6" WG. I will start by putting it in the middle of the 8 4" drivers and see what happens.

Does anyone here know line arrays? OB? Cheers.

Any reason this crossover can't be used with the PH612 waveguide in a bit bigger cab? I've been modeling the PA310 in 2.5 ft3 sealed and have thought it would work pretty well.
