E-book?
I spoke with Chris the other day and suggested that we make an E-book with the info on this thread and the flex thread on the PE forum. It would be nice to have a convenient and more importantly a permanent record of all the good stuff we have here. He was very supportive of the idea.

Does anyone have a recommendation on a high quality 8" woofer for an Ewave?
I've built a few ewaves thus far, the most recent being a pair of NLA's. I'd like to put something together that gets the acoustic centers as close together as possible, a little higher up and with improved efficiency(over the NLA anyway).
I'm thinking a 90db (or so) 8" ewave with the 8 or 6" waveguide might be the ticket. I'd like something that has reasonably good bass without a sub(I don't expect 2235 bass!

I just finished building the Mini Ewave with the Beta 8a and XD120 this past weekend. The Betas don't have terribly low bass but with a proper sub they work very well for a high efficiency speaker.
The D220ti is a very good CD as well for the price although it can get a touch harsh at loud volumes. At lower levels however it can sound rather nice.
With a modern receiver it is rather easy to setup a sub with the mains. That is merely personal preference whether or not you would like a sub though.

They are finished now, I just need to take a pic, they do sound nice!
Standard EW low pass for the LE-10A sounds fine, the 4X high pass was modified to standard EW high pass attenuation resistors/capacitor (30,16, 0.47uF), rather than what's shown here: http://techtalk.parts-express.com/showthread.php?p=1661471&posted=1#post1661471
The best part of using a JBL 10" (besides the C-C distance) is the tone of the bass pretty closely matches the tone of a 2235 (without the lowest bits of course). I put it in about 1.5 cu.ft. sealed, per a JBL tuning chart, very musical!

I ran a test today of just how harsh the 220Ti sounds. It's easy to hear once you disconnect the woofer and turn up the volume (and stand back! Too close and it's you ears that distort...)
The Selinium 2500Ti sounds a little better, while the B&C DE250 sounds even better to me on this test.
I ran the new caps in for an hour with the 220Ti, then played the same CD a few more times after putting the batteries in. By the second play _with_ the batteries, the cymbals _were_ noticeably better.
It would be nice to see some waterfall charts of the before and after, anyone? Just to make sure I'm not fooling myself.
Tomorrow I'll try damping the rear caps.

Although I know how to use "ewave" as a verb, I have not yet built a pair. I missed out on a pair Advents two years ago and haven't seen a pair since. If I was to scratch build a pair I would build the deluxe high sensitivity models, which I cannot afford at this juncture, not when I have an embarrassing number of items that could stand to visit a qualified technician. More likely I'd build his take on the AR4x.
All this by way of saying I would gladly buy a tag of some sort for $20 that would identify my speakers, when I build them, as Zilch designed. Especially if some of it went to his family or the charity of their choice, maybe even sponsor a quarter of one class for some deserving electrical engineering student.
I know, I know, we can't just start minting jbl logos in red wax, but a tasteful ZilchLabs logo sticky metal tag thing might be cool. Maybe make 100 of them. Maybe number them. You can only buy one if you can document that you built your speaker to specs in his posts.

A table or cross-reference for the drivers, waveguides, and XOs would be nice. Ideally, it would include a little of everything from costs/availability, performance expectations, to finished XO designs. Think of it as a way for someone to take over where the last builder left off or something better than "search for 2235" to get started.
The eWave dummies guide to PCD would be my favorite. Collect and organize the ZMA, FRD, and CSP files. More clearly document the measurement procedure to facilitate sharing of data.

I had my friend draw one up in Autocad, but it was to formal. How about simple disk with 'ZilchLab E-wave' (2 separate lines) I could then make a separate model and S/N tag if desired. I am thinking brass would be a nice and tasteful material. Anodized aluminum looks nice engraved as well. What do you all think? I would need a little help with the S/N's as I don't know what has been issued.

I have a set of Utility Advents in waiting to build an E-wave. My thoughts were that to get a "serial #", I would have to document the build and post it, so to ensure some sort of quality control process.
Perhaps the various speaker logos could be made/sold, but the separate serials only for those that complete the documentation requirements of any new builds?

I have thought about this for some time now. I know for certain that Evan would not want any thing along the lines 'in memory of.." he was just to humble for that. He wanted to have something like 'ZilchLab Loudspeaker Emporium and Spa' of something very similar for his badges that I was making for him - wish I got it done for him but I thought I had more time. If any one knows the exact term from the quote above let me know as I want it for my badges since mine are not really E-waves and having a silly/odd badge on high $$$ speakers (my wife would kill me if she knew what the drivers cost) just seems fitting to Evan.
As far as finishing mine I am 99% sure that I am not going to finish them and will be doing all out cabinets to get the most out of the drivers and crossover.

Humble and Zilch just don't seem to go together in my head. Private and Zilch, for sure.
I believe that thedelihaus has the ability to make badges, perhaps someone would like to approach him. I think he also has a keen eye for design so he'd probably come up wiht something very nice.
