Well, the receiver not me so much :) 2230 restored. Everything works great with a small itty bitty exception. The phono setting will give what sounds like a 60 cycle hum if the volume is up about 1/2 way. If I touch the chassis, it goes away. This started because in the loft where I had it, I...
Finished :)
This took some time with having to build a new bench and some other projects.
All new caps.. ALL of them
New micas for power transistors
New power switch
DeOxit scrubbing
1 shorted wire found and fixed
New vellum
new LEDs
Wonky attenuator switch cleaned
Faceplate scrubbed with...
Oh the joys of a restoration ;) So I finally had some time to put into the 2230 of mine. I could not get the stereo lights ( 2) to work. I had pulled the bulbs which were toast and replaced them with some LEDs I gotten off eBay as a package deal. The LEDs were warm white and worked fine on the...
I finished up my 2285B and I have in place of pride in my loft with the 2226B relegated to the floor right now. I'm still debating on keeping the 2285B but while I noodle that around, I've picked up a 2230 and started the restoration. Overall it's in pretty fair shape other than the power switch...
Hi-
new member. I have a 2230 as well as modern gear (anthem AV amp, speakers with Raal ribbons, digital sources). I like the 2230's warmth and musicality with the digital sources and ribbon speakers but it seems to lose some of the detail that comes from my modern set up when using the anthem...
Hi everyone,
I'm new here and recently posted this is the Solid State forum before realizing Marantz had its own forum...here goes!
I recently picked up a minty fresh, *all original* Marantz 2230 from my local Craigslist of all places. I got her home and cranked her up..sounded great aside...
Hello, All!
This is my first post here on AK, so be gentle..
I recently picked up a minty fresh, *all original* Marantz 2230 from my local Craigslist of all places. I got her home and cranked her up..sounded great aside from a scratchy volume pot. So I figure I'll open it up, clean out the...
My Marantz 2230 just lost tone control. The sound became very thin, and none of the bass, mid, or treble pots have any effect. It affects both channels. Volume works fine and the loudness contour still has an effect when turned on and off.
I've not noticed distortion, although it's so thin...
The square ceramic 150 ohm 5w resistor on a 2230 power supply can scorch the C804 electrolytic capacitor and the wire running to the collector of the outboard transistor. It is squeezed in-between these two items (this does not apply to the units that have the resistor mounted underneath).
Is...
Hi there great forums very informative learning something everyday.
New to me Marantz 2230 works great but out of curiosity checked the Dc voltage on speaker terminals and both are reading around 35DCV I ahve always thought that is very bad for the speakers and was planing on doing re-cap on...
Hey all!
This post is just an effort for me to process through some stuff and share my thoughts. I am 31 and a newby to the whole hifi thing. I wasn't around during the hey day of audio, so I'm just learning and listening as I go; using this forum as a barometer of sorts.
I've been running a...
hello, i have a 2230 with a bad amp, i already change all the bad transistors and other parts, by the way all the transistors except the input one was toasted, both 1n60 diodes, sv-3a diode, emitter resistors, and at least 7 miscelaneus resistors were toasted or open, all electrolitcs are new...
Noticed transistor H802 being quite hot to the touch, also the voltage at its collector measuring higher than what it presumably should: 51.7V as opposed to 42.5V on the schematic.
Did check it on another 2230 and it is pretty much the same thing: 51.2V at collector and running hot.
I wonder...
Hey all,
I am going to attempt to get into the McIntosh world soon and am looking for some wisdom. I currently run a refurbished Marantz 2230 as my daily driver in a larger sized living room. I don't need crazy power as I use some mint Klipsch Quartets.
I have narrowed things down to an...
Hi there. I've been stalking this site for a while, but this is my first post.
Vintage audio is new to me, but I recently decided to get into it a bit, I guess to relive sitting around as s kid at my aunts house listening to old records.
I have two questions about a set of wharfedale e30...
Hey there, a while back I bought a recap kit from irebuildmarantz. The unit worked fine but I wanted to do the recap just to make sure it was working as best as possible.
I am a total noob but successfully did the recap following the online guide. The last steps are to do the power supply...
I know I've seen it here before, but I can't find it now. I have a 2230 that had an odd aftermarket switch that was installed. I've removed that and have a replacement, but every switch I've seen had a Film Cap on the side of the switch. I had a note that it should be 0.033 uF / 250 vdc film...
Hi,
I'm getting ready to recap my first 2230 and have been busy reading many archived threads and part lists. To the best of my knowledge the chassis caps recommended by many (and on the recap list) are discontinued according to the Digikey website. The filter cap that's discontinued is...
There seems to be a lot of hate online for this generation of Marantz, which is a real shame.
I think it has two great things going for it.
1. It sounds better than any other receiver I have ever had
2. It wasn't like 400-900 dollars.
So where does the hate stem from in these transitional...
Have a 2230 I bought new that has been in a box for 10-12 years. Want to recap/new lights etc to use in office.
The 2230 got put away when I got new speakers it couldn't drive and went to 100 w/ch Denon. While lurking here reading I also started looking at CL and got first a 2275 and then 2385...
