    "New" Pioneer RT-707

Hi everyone! I've just bought an RT-707 in working condition, supposedly fully operational. My plan is to check its actual state and see if any adjustments are needed. If anyone here has experience with this model and can recommend any specific procedures, it would be greatly appreciated! I will...

Good source for RT-707 Pinch roller

Anyone have any suggestions on where to get a replacement pinch roller Right Hand on an RT-707? Wasn't particularly looking for just the rubber portion unless someone has had a positive experience with replacing them. But I'm open to the idea. Otherwise, the complete roller is what I'm looking for.

    RT-707 Playback relay problem?

Hi all, it's been a while since I last visited. My lovely old RT-707 is still performing well, until today. I started playing a tape and noticed that the left channel was silent. No action on the VU meter. But then after a couple of seconds the left channel suddenly came to life. The audio...

RT-707 - Tension arm spring and stopper rubber

Hi all, As I mentioned on a previous thread, I just got my very first Reel-to-reel, an RT-707. This morning I opened it to apply some deoxit on the contacts and pots, and noticed something odd with both tension arms springs (RBH-329). They were looking more like wires! Whoever "serviced" the...

Got my first R2R - RT-707 - Got an issue with mixing channels on playback

Hi all, After a long time pondering I finally got my first Reel-to-reel to add to my Pioneer stack. It's an RT-707. It's very clean and got (apparently) everything working. I've cleaned the heads, re-lubed the pinch rollers and tried to play this tape (link to it in case it's relevant)...

    RT-707 cleaning and minor repair

Hi Tape Lovers and Happy New Year! I am cleaning up one of the two RT-707s I have had in storage for a few years. This one played well a few years ago, but for one playback issue that I need to fix (and also it is quite dusty internally). The playback issue seems to be that one rca output...

    The famous Pioneer RT-NNN DVDs

Hello Tape Lovers! A few years ago a gentleman made and sold on Ebay a set of "how to" DVDs documenting his rebuilds of 707s and 909s. I understand the gentleman passed away a couple years ago and I have not seen these DVDs available in the last couple years on the bay. Anyone know if these...

Supply and Take-Up reel motors for Pioneer RT-707

Hi All, Can anyone tell me what the run voltage is for the Supply and Take-Up reel motors on an RT-707. The motors are RXM-032 and RXM-034. I can't seem to find what their specs are. The reason I am asking is that my machine is a 240v 50Hz version (multi-voltage) and if I was to buy a pair...

Rt. Channel Recording issue with newly acquired Pioneer RT-707

I just got around to checking the recording capability after installing a new motor in a new to me RT-707. Here's the symptom list: All pots and switches Deoxited. Pre-recorded tape playback is fine in both directions. Alignment is fine in both directions. (Screws still locked in place from...

Question: Best way to extract a broken screw from an RT-707 reel motor?

I lucked across another 707 in otherwise near mint condition. (Locally, thank heavens.) The only problem is the reel clamp screw is broken off. I've tried the smallest easy out I can find at the box store and I've broken TWO of the smallest bits I had (not super hard ones though and those...

Recieved a Spec stack as a gift...should it be serviced?

Hey Pioneer fans, For a long time I had a great SA-8100 until it blew a channel when I was moving across the country and didn't want to bring it...but now I am the lucky recipient of a full spec stack from my wife's uncle. 10 years ago I joked that he should call me if he ever wanted to get rid...

RT-707 Reel To Reel Sensing Tape Question

Hi all. I scored myself a beautiful Pioneer RT-707. One of the features of this reel to reel deck is the auto reverse function. All it needs is a piece of sensing foil to trigger when the tape reverses. So, I bought myself a 10.5 ft. roll of the sensing foil. It really doesn't appear to be too...

    Newbie Reel To Reel Questions

Hi. I am new to the reel to reel world. Picked up a Pioneer RT-707 recently and love it. I have 2 (probably stupid) questions. 1. - How do i store blank reels I am not using. Do they have to be stored upright (like vinyl)? Or can I lay them down and stack them 2. - The RT-707 has a feature of...

Hoping I Didnt Damage my RT-707

I just recently picked up a FULLY serviced RT-707 in MINT condition from eBay. All mechanisms were lubed, all capacitors were replaced, heads were polished to a shine, demagnetized and aligned, counter belt replaced,..etc...etc... Anyway, I have been using the deck for a solid week. I am...

    Reel To Reel Annoyance

I am going to try to keep this short. I am on my 2nd RT-707 (Pioneer) deck. The 1st one I bought off eBay was sold "as is". It was dirty (heads were dirty), mechanism was sticky,..etc..etc. It sounded great, but, as I said, it needed some work. Something I noticed on this deck, was, I kept...

    Pioneer RT-707 recording problem

After reading this excellent thread, I was able to replace the counter belt and a few noisy transistors in the input amp. Now the LINE IN sounds great on the headphones, and passes through to LINE OUT very cleanly. The problem: Playback amplitude and frequency are good, but I can hear a...

    RT-707 rising from the grave

I posted years back about an RT-707 that had been badly damaged during shipping. The crippling blow was that I would need a new front chassis plate to get the tape to run properly again and this looked unlikely. However, I've recently been able to buy one and having now received it, I pulled...
