100,000 even 200,000 mile vehicle club

2002 Nissan Frontier crew cab. 278.000 miles, 3.3 V6, 5 speed auto, non 4x4. Radiator, starter,PS exhaust manifold, water pump & timing belt has been replaced & a roller bearing on the distributor shaft. On high mileage engine’s the valve springs really should be replaced and I would on this engine if it wasn’t for the intake manifold hanging over the DS valve cover. I had to take off the intake once to replace the valve cover gasket. It was an all weekend project. Nissan stuffed this V6 into an engine bay that was for a 4 cyl.

My DD is an 04 Grand with the 4.7 HO. Just had the tranny rebuilt in it at 170000. My 'recreation' rig is my 96 Grand with the venerable 4.0 six cylinder in it. It just hit 250000 on the clock and is still running strong with original engine, transmission and T-case.

Update on this post: I traded the 231K mile Jeep for a 2006 Toyota 4Runner, in excellent shape, but with 189K on it... I loved the Cherokee, but this is a real nice upgrade in ride quality, with more power, better fuel economy, nicer interior & much more quiet... I hope to drive it a long time....
Yeah, I'm looking at a 4Runner next time around, mainly for its off-road capabilities. I do OK with what I have now, but really want the added ground clearance and the two-speed transfer case. And they aren't inexpensive, even used with higher mileage, so that will be a challenge. Plus, I will want to get one from the south that hasn't been blasted by salt. That's a nice one you have there!

im actually looking for one of those at present, but no one will cough them up reasonable

Here is my volvo 740 that I would like to sell. The engine runs very smooth ( I can take video if needed) it has roughly 229k on it. This is a very clean car for its age and it did have some surface rust above the windshield.(I cleaned it and used touch up paint) Underneath the car has no rust as shown in photos. It did have a grandpa rack and I used IPD plugs when I removed it. I can include that if you want it as well. I not see any leaks under the engine or anything and th…

This is my 1976 245, w/201k miles. The often hated K-Jet, right?
2 years ago, I parked this car for the winter. I had filled the tank with non-alcohol gas and some Sta-on it’s last drive.
Yesterday I put a new battery in it and started it up...
(Someone buy it from me before I fall in love with it again and start throwing money at it)

My 2008 Civic Si Sedna had 190,000+ when I sold it. It is still on the road.

My 1970 Opel GT has 147K on it.

My current VW Golf R has 92K and will be over 100 soon.

I think 200K is not unreasonable these days with proper maintenance.

Picture of the 1970 Opel GT, please?

I had three of them, years ago- a "frankenstein" 1969/70 (a 1969 that had been hit in the rear and "clipped" with the rear end of a 1970) 1100 (which we later converted to a 1900), a 1972 1900 (too rusty to fix, unfortunately), an a 1973 (VERY clean- wound up selling it to a guy who exported it to Sweden).

I've been looking through boxes of old papers and pictures since moving a couple months ago- and I can't find any pictures of any of mine, anymore. :(

While the 1969/1970 sounds like it should have been a train-wreck of a car- I knew the guy (a master body tech) who did the surgery. it had extremely good welding, some additional gussets- and wound up being the most RIGID body structure of any Opel GT I ever drove. That thing would corner quicker than any other "stock" GT. My dad used to say that it was the kind of car where "you would sneeze, and when you opened your eyes, you were two lanes over". Steering was like telepathy.

Gordon.

A lot of the GM cars with the 3800 engine went way past 100K miles

There was a traveling salesman who bought a Buick LeSabre with a 3800, from the dealership where my Dad worked- in one year, he put 101K on it.

He kept it for almost FIVE years, before trading for a new one. Same rate of travel each year.Never had a significant engine or transmission problem, from what I knew.

With almost FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND MILES on it- it still looked, sounded and drove almost like a new car.

Shows what proper maintenance can do...

Gordon.

I finally found a replacement for the 1989 Nissan truck that was killed by the tree:

95_nissan_king_cab_with_camper_lf.jpg

It came to me with 156K on it. However- it's almost like a time-capsule. Looks and runs almost like new. Interior, except for some wear on the center console cover and some discoloration on the floor mats, even looks almost new. Got it from a retired Nissan dealership Master Tech, whose father had bought the truck new back in 1995. The guy I bought it from, had done all the service on the truck, until he retired- and a buddy of his at the same dealership, took over for all the service between then and when I bought it. I got the service log, showing everything that has ever been done to the truck! They even had a car cover that went on it, whenever it wasn't being driven!

Believe it or not- the camper shell did not come with the truck. I lucked out. I had been looking for one, and had almost resigned myself that the only way I was going to find one was to drive half way across the country- when I stopped in at a local truck accessory place, near where I used to live until a few months ago. Guy running the place sees me drive up- then does a double take- which seemed a bit odd. When I got out- he said "I hope you're looking for a camper shell". I said "Yes- but why?". He said "Follow me"- we went to the rear of his lot, where sitting right there, was a Leer shell for a Nissan D21 king cab- already painted in the EXACT SAME COLOR as my truck. I wound up paying more than I originally intended for the camper shell- but really- where would I EVER have found one for a 25 year old truck, that was AN EXACT MATCH, somewhere else???

Barring disaster- this truck will hopefully take me until now, until I retire 15 or more years from now, and beyond. I'm gonna keep it until it just won't go anymore...

Regards,
Gordon.

My 1994 Suburban I had to sell in July, it was actually low mileage as I had a company truck for 7 years and didn't drive it much. It had 284K on it.

Only one car of the five cars in this picture of my driveway has less than 100,000 miles on it and it is about to turn 95,000. Three of the cars have well over 200,000 on them. I consider that normal for a normally-aspirated inline-six-cylinder BMW engine.

my 280K mile XJ will happily cruise at 80 and will hit much higher speeds comfortably. Not bad for a 20 year old vehicle with the suspension and axles from a hay wagon and the aerodynamics of a brick.

My 335i with a N54 "only" has about 160K miles, but I did just throw new struts and associated hardwares under it because they were shot, now that vehicle will go a lot faster <G>
