12" Shiva #121947 dual vc driver

seen a couple of these in a 2'x2'x2' enclosure, very solid probably 1" MDF. Not bad lookin either, about 100lbs each. Anyone know the deal on these Shivas's?

Shivas are pretty well regarded among the DIY crowd as a great bang for the buck sub driver. Not the greatest driver ever but really hard to beat for the price.

$100CDN for the pair, with cabinets. What would you do?

I would run, not walk to get them. I built a sealed sub with one and it will smoke anything that costs less than $1000.00.

Of cousre I may be biased, but I think they are a great sub for the money and for $100 you can't go wrong.

No passive on mine.

I use it more for music than theater stuff. That is the type of enclosure that Adire rec for me.

I think I'm convinced, all I've been thinkin about

the guy's open tomorrow, I'll reinspect those cabinets...make sure they're of a high quality construction, see if I can test-run em. Would it be ok to run them full-range, just a little bit?? :scratch2:

Should not be a problem.

Seem to be very tuff drivers from my experience.

Here's a question for you, bolly: when they call it a 'dual voice coil' driver, what exactly do you think that means? :scratch2:

Two voice coils, either 2x8 ohms, or 2x4 ohms, depending on the model. Two voice coils means two sets of tinsels.

You can either hook them up to stereo amp outputs or you can wire them in series or parallel to a mono amp depending on what impedance you want.

I know for car audio dual voice coil subs are for the low end of BOTH channels so you can have your stereo image and your stand alone Sub too. Kerwin-Vega used to make 'em especially. I always thought thay it was kindof a crummy shortcut to a well designed system. Not sure that applies here of if it's any help at all, but I got my two cents in!
