I am a dog guy, but have somehow acquired 2 cats during the last 2 years. It all began when my daughter brought by a small half starved tuxedo cat she said she found locked in her garage. She said she had to have been in there 10 days. She was very scared and thin as a rail. My daughter couldn't keep her, as she already had 3 cats and 2 dogs which was 3 animals over her rental lease. Wife said we would take her and daughter would keep an eye out for the owners looking for a lost cat.
Cat turned out to be pregnant and gave birth to a litter of 4 a few weeks after arrival. When they were old enough we found great homes for the babies and my wife fell in love with one of the kittens, which we kept. We have gotten both fixed so we won't have to worry about having any 2 headed babies.
Momma (Sadie) is a beautiful and sweet cat. She isn't a lap cat, but comes around for some lovin a couple of times a day. She has filled out, but only weighs about 6 lbs. The male kitten we kept (Tom) is huge and weighed 12.5# when we got him neutered at 6 months old. I would guess he is close to 20 lbs at 1.5 years old. He is VERY independent, but demands attention when he wants it. Everyone who sees him comments on his size. Next time Sadie and Tom are side by side looking out the glass door I will take and post a pic.
Cats are ok, but I'm still a dog guy.

I've never really cared for cats but when someone brings one home, seems they've all been closer to me than any other family members.

The last one we had came up missing a couple months ago and this week while I was at work, my wife text me and said she came home. I was in disbelief and when I got home I thought she does look like her and decided to spend some time with it to find out if it was the one that came up missing. After about an hour I told my wife no this is not her.

Last night I kicked her out of the bedroom and she came back and wanted to play around with things and sit in the window and meow, so I got up and tossed her out again and shut the door. If this were my cat, she would stop me from whatever I'm doing to let me know it's bedtime if it's past 9pm and while I'm walking towards the bedroom she would run in there, jump on the bed, and be down for the evening. Kinda disappointed at the moment that this cat is not our cat.

These two were left behind by their former non-humans. I already have three indoor cats. Been adopted twice more.

put a cat door on my shed, which has a loft. They were spayed by a neighbor while this house was empty. I briefly met her and invited over, and Stopped to show her some photos of kitties .... her housemate told me she passed.... just.that.fast. Unexpectedly. May The Next Step of Her Journey be ever so stunning.

want to take the best possible care of these babies. Lux Interior is the calico (Lux), and Poison Ivy (Ivy) is the black kitty. They’re sweet.

I have never lived with an outdoor cat except for the time I lived way out in the country and I was with her while she was out there. I can’t bring these cats in because of my three. I don’t know anyone looking for a cat or two at the moment, as they seem to be quite bonded. Makes me nervous about them being outside cats.

Our 15 year old girl Iris is seeing the vet today. The right side of her face is swollen. No apparent wounds.

We couldn't get her in until today. Looks to be an abscess in her cheek, not tooth related. She is not a fighter, she avoids the neighborhood cats. But she is a hunter so perhaps it was a chipmunk that swatted her. She's staying there for the day to have it drained but should be home tonight. Otherwise the vet said she looks great for a 15 year old.

I have four strays in the back yard that I feed daily. They're all friendly.

I see strays nearly every day on my walk along the creek. People dump them at the parking lot. A "cat lady" leaves food out along the trail every day, so they do survive, but it's still a hard life.

I would let neither a cat, nor dog, run loose unless I had a farm, ranch, estate, or some other large and/or rural property. In those instances, the cat or dog has a job and is far more than a pet. They are there to keep other less desirable creatures at bay, like mice, rats, pigeons, coyotes, fox, and the list goes on. Unfortunately, they may also try and beat the snot out of (or mate with) any strange dog or cat that happens to wander onto their property.

There are many people that will shoot a cat on sight found on their property, or found out in the woods. Same with dogs running in a pack (domestic dogs will run a deer to death, just like wolves). It's even legal in some areas.

Now throw in the liability of your animal roaming around unchecked. Cats bite, and they can split you open with their claws. So when little Dolly Mae from sown the way's father slaps a lawsuit on you because your cat "attacked" his little girl, nothing good will come of it, for you or the cat.

So keep your pets indoors, in a fenced enclosure, or on a leash.

I love cats and I have quite a few.

The cat in the top picture looks so much like the cat we lost near the end of April. Max was his name as in Mad Max because as our first kitten rescue, he made my wife and me laugh so much when we were depressed after my wife took redundancy after 31years. Wifey said “ha ha he’s mad...oh that’s his name Mad Max!”.Max’s passing from heart condition and cancer, left a big raw gaping hole in our hearts.
A month after Max was given the liquid lulaby by the vet, who came to the house so we could say goodbye as my wife cradled him in her arms, a beautiful young female cat came round our back yard and just walked in the door. She is laying curled up at the heater right now as it’s frosty outside. We love her so much for soothing our pain.

Cleo has, happily, made me need to get the cat butler hat on again to open the door (which contains the cat-flap) for her to let her in and out.
