I had a close call with my old guy Patches. He has kidney failure, & I believe I’ve mentioned here and there, and he gets fluids twice a week sub-Q at home. I also have him on a “lower” (not Low) protein and phosphorus diet. If anyone ever needs any help navigating diet, websites, giving fluids, tips/tricks, please feel free to reach out 
he turned around Sunday afternoon through the night, and he started eating again. but seeing him Friday night and Saturday made me really wonder if it was his time. This disease is manageable, but they’re going to have some bad days.
he was an outside cat at this place I rented for many years. I saw him one day, and took care of him for several years outside while trying to find his people. Nothing ever turned up. so one day, after gaining his trust, I put him in a carrier and took him to the vet to be checked out. He was already elderly when he was out there. His VET is a truly wonderful man someone I worked for intermittently 11 years. We’re not sure if he’s 15 or 19 or even older. I love him with all my heart and when he first came inside I don’t think he left the bed for two weeks straight. It’s rough out there on cats. So many people hate these stray/feral cats as if it is their fault.
later on, I will write about my other two, and then the two cats people left behind where I moved. hope everybody is having a great week so far and please give lots of love to your babies!

I hope the poor guy makes it through, sending him all the best wishes! Life is never easy for stray cats, especially for pets ... those who previously lived inside the house are not used to to living outside (& having to fight for food to survive). have to agree with this. i love my cats and have had a bunch of them. current pair may be the best ever. however, outdoor cats kill for sport (and apparently because they think you need food and want to bring presents). birds, reptiles, everything. bird populations are crashing in a lot of places. outdoor cats do not live as long.
it is hard to get an outdoor cat to give up the outdoor life. best if you start young, keep them indoors and they never get that urge. my cats are pretty much afraid of the outdoors and i like it that way.

thank you ever so kindly for your warm thoughts toward Patches. <3 I can tell he was loved at one time, and he understands how to use a cat door. I’m not sure what happened to his people. I even googled years and years back trying to word it different ways in the city where he was found, “lost brown and white tabby cat,” etc. If only they could talk and tell her story. Thank you again.
he loves cuddling, Having his armpits massaged, and his belly rubbed. I could do it 24 hours. Only breaks for chow and litter box.

Mine was also stray, who had the misfortune of being with the wrong family who didn't care for him and/or provided him with medical care when he got hit by a car. I believe I talked about this previously, he led a very difficult & painful life. Some of the consequences are unfortunately still visible even today, although (that being said) he got used to his new environment in no time! And is always hungry for love & affection.

Thank goodness your baby has you! The thing that saves me about animals is that they don’t process the way we do about outcomes of medical scenarios. Your example, all the details of being hit by a car. They know they are in pain. Thank goodness they cannot think ahead, or realize the gravity of such situations in the same ways we do. Big hug to you and yours!

True. And this is one of the reasons why I get so over-protective sometimes, especially when I see irresponsible pet-owner. I never met these guys (probably a good thing, too - otherwise I really couldn't hold myself back) but they left him locked up in the basement. He never received the proper care in time, and so (as a result) his palate is split open.
Not a huge, life-threatening issue (and he doesn't appear to be in pain) but he has serious problems with eating food, which tends to fall inside, causing him to sneeze (and potentially causing sinus infection). We took him to a vet years later, several times even, trying to undo the damage but to quote the vets "his palate has been opened for far too long (and he grew up like that, it's been years since it happened) so now there's only so much they can do about it." They've tried to stitch it back up, but after only couple of days it gave out & opened up again. He's also missing some of the teeth, mostly rear ones, molars. Other than that, he's one healthy & spoiled 5-yr old guy who means the world to me!
