Bought an Onkyo M-510, but...

Agreed. The Onkyo speakers here are 4 ohms and have drops into the 2 range. The M-510 can drive 1 ohm without problem, and keep composure throughout the range, something the JVC isn't really meant for. It's only officially rated for 8 ohm loads, it can drive 4 but the 2 drops can cause it to lose some of the definition and depth in the bass frequencies (under 45hz) and to also shrink a bit in its middle band presentation. It isn't built for this kind of rigor, it has a 450va power supply for both channels with 4 output transistors per channel vs about 1000va and 14-200 watt transistors per channel in the 510, plus the in phase transformers. Different design philosophies.

The M-510 has quite the power supply. The Vintage Knob says the output transistors are Sankens. Do you know which ones?

One of the first the abso!ute sound issues I bought was the one with the comparison review of the Onkyo Grand Integra M-510 against a host of other US amps. It was judged the best of the group.

The M510 is in my A list of amps, Technics SE-A3MK2, Yamaha MX 10000, Sony TA-NR1 Michi RHB10 are some others in this league...

All the big amps of this calibre have large independent xfmrs hefty resivoir capacitors and the big MT200 SanKen outputs.

I'd love to get a M510 myself..... rocking horse poo let alone finding one in 240V then the freight drama..... oh to win lotto

I've had the chance to use the Technics, definitely a very good amp, I've had the Rotel Michi amp, very good, about on par with my JVC here. If you look through some of my photos here. I've also had the Sony NR1 amps. Unbelievably good, 100w class A. Not the most output power ever, but hugely capable, can drive anything.
The 510, like my Stax amps somehow are in their own league. The Stax, well they are from the first family of high end, and the Onkyo, well it's the power supply and the topology. It's magic.

Were the M-510 and the 5001s produced at the same time period? It'd be interesting if Onkyo used the M-510 to voice the 5001s. I'd imagine that you'd be the only person outside of Japan to have the M510 and a pair of 5001s in the same system.

They were produced in the same time period, but the 510 came into production first. I would think the speakers used the amp as a reference, that along with the GS-1 speaker.

Tim is happy! I know it, I would be too! That is awesome on every level!
Obviously the packing job was stellar.
Congrats!
