Commercials You Hate

Can't help you with your negative view of the world brother. Can just comment on the reality you seem to not grasp. One dude bitchin negativity in every post isn't going to change ****.

Edit: and we are pissed about a lot of the same things.

Being pissed off at the world causes a lot of flawed logic.
Agree. Even though we comment about commercials - especially medical, they serve multiple purposes. They pay for shows we like to watch, and inform us about what is available in the marketplace. In some cases this can be invaluable. Take for example some of the new drugs that fight cancer. Your insurance company may not pay for them and recommend a generic that is not as good. Being informed allows you discuss the alternatives with your doctor and elect to change meds for better results. We make fun of these commercials, but breakthroughs happen daily and even medical professions do not always keep up on what’s new.

I consider myself one of the 5% or so humans that are nearly immune to advertising.

However...every now and then something I'm actually interested in is advertised.

I still haven't tried a "Papdilla" even though I salivate every time the ad is on.

I pretty much know it won't look like the one on TV, though.

Still not gonna buy car repair insurance/extended warranty, home repair insurance, sell my houses(s) for cash without repairing them, or ask my doctor if flomonomo is right for me.

if you make a thing and nobody knows you make it, it and whatever you replace it with will remain un-sold.
Good. It means this thing is non-essential. A lot of useless crap is being advertised. In the age of search engines one does not need pushy ads, instead one can look in respective trade magazines for products and services. Well, at least this would be the preferred way of doing things, but "this is not how it works" :)

I guess I am ok with printed ads as they are easily skippable if one does not care about the products being advertised, but audio and video ads suck big time. With printed magazines being replaced with video, ads become a bigger nuisance. One of the things I liked about Netflix was no ads and no pre-rolls.

What is a point of medical ads in a country where the only drugs one can buy without prescription are ibuprophen and cough drops?

So far there have been no breakthrough in treating cancer. If there were, every newspaper big and small would report about it, and it would be different from advertising.

 pretty sure you have stated that you won't pay for a service, but you want free commercial free media... If you're not willing to pay for it, then how is it getting paid for? Rhetorical question.

I used to subscribe to Netflix streaming, canceled it, but still have DVD subscription. I buy DVDs and BDs, CDs not so much, but I buy from Bandcamp. I watch PBS and don't watch commercial channels, they are utter garbage despite - or because - they are being paid by advertisers. I am subscribed to several paper magazines. Most stuff is not needed to be paid for because it is not needed to be produced.

Not true at all and thinking you will glean what's real in the world from News Paper's I cannot even think of a word for.

I don't need to glean. Things that I don't need could as well do not exist.

Here is how my latest DVD purchase went. I was looking for Super 8 footage for my video and came across shots from a TV series that I did not know of. This turned out to be The Wonder Years. I researched this series, found some episodes online, watched them and figured that I may like it. So I went on eBay and bought the whole 6-DVD pack for $30, I think it was originally priced at $150 or $250, whatever it was too expensive anyway, so even if I knew about it ten years ago I would not buy it then. It is a fun series about a teenager growing up in a suburban middle class family in the late 1960s and early 1970s. So, school and friends and girls and the Vietnam war on the background.
