Cool American military planes.

When I was young, the "Flying Boxcars" and "Flying Bananas" were over our house constantly, ten miles from the Fort Devens airfield. The helos sometimes came over so low you could see the crew in the glass nose!

I remember reading about 1950s-1960s privately owned (read: CIA) Flying Boxcars, being used to transport troops, munitions, and other goods in SE Asia and Central America.

Civil Air Transport or "Air America." ;)

This came to MAPS Air Museum on 2 flatbed in January this year. Reassembled the 1-piece wing assembly to the airframe 2 weeks ago along with tailpiece, vertical stabilizer & couple other bits. On permanent loan from Cherry Point Marine Corps base. We had to go get it, logistics were quite complicated. Our new executive director flew this exact unit in Iraq & Afghanistan total of 31 times back in the day. The jarheads threw in a complete spare rolls royce engine, drop tanks, bomb racks, a shiite-ton of other goodies. This is the only one in Ohio.
AV-8A, aka Harrier , the famous jump jet!

Working on a trip to this year's Airventure @ Oshkosh. Among the numerous military aircraft that'll be there will be B-29 "Doc", likely "Bataan" (MacArthur's personal Lockheed Constellation...see post #1842 here) and, to top it off: Red Bull is bring over their impeccably-restored Douglas DC-6. It was Yugoslave strongman Tito's personal ride, so there's a bit of a military connection. It will be a sight to behold---and to hear.
