Lots of people getting paid to stay home and probably lots more losing their shorts. My employer has cut back hours but I am getting paid. Same with the Mrs.

You would think someone would have to cover peoples insurance whether it be the employer or the Govt. If not, imagine how many people will go to work elsewhere before or after we're beyond this.

The next place you go to that has insurance and is not shut down, you have a job with insurance coverage again.
Didn't say it was right, but it is what it is. COBRA let's you keep your coverage, but the costs are yours as well.

If I found another job they would want X week notice before I left. It is only fair.
In some countries it works that way, but for the most part those rules don't apply here. Some union shops probably have guidelines for layoff notices and seniority, but the rest of us can be let go on a moment's notice.
I've had to do three or four workforce reductions over the last 30 years and they all sucked.

My point is that it would be seen as highly unprofessional if I just didn't show up the next day because I found another job without notice. It is highly frowned upon doing that. If you lay or fire someone the very least the company could do is pay for 2 months cobra. It shouldn't be "that's just the way it is" mentality.
I agree with you and some employers (like mine) will offer severance or some continuation of benefits, but they don't have to. The laws are on the side of the employers, and like it or not, that is the way it is.

Office Manager at a large chain furniture store, the only one still open. lol Mass closed everything non essential and they just laid off over 400 people today. Her store is in NH but looks like it will be closing too as all the office stuff is in Mass. I think it really sucks when you have to go on cobra for something like this and spend most of your unemployment on it.
Everyone is stressing hard, she is going through her second round of Cancer and needs her insurance.

On the subject of insurance - I'm sure a lot of folk are being drafted (as in, you wanna work, this is what we got) to do home deliveries. Be aware that under normal circumstances, a lot of auto insurance DOES NOT COVER business related activities when using personal vehicles. Definitely want to double check with your agent first.
