Do you use the 'loudness' feature on your rcvr/amp?

Sometimes. I have two Yamahas with variable loudness, which I find is much more useful than a button. My Onkyo A-5 has a button.

I got it, I use it, and I'm damn proud of it! Sounds fantastic on my setup, but I do adjust the bass control down a bit with it on.

And I really like plenty of bass - I get all I need with my amp set as above.

My C26 has a variable Loudness pot. Very rarely is it used, but if it is it's when I'm listening at very low levels.

I've heard that the Realistic 'miniamps' (e.g SA-10, SA-100, SA-150) have "automatic" variable loudness built into the circuit.

I have the SA-10 hooked up to my Optimus-2B speakers. It sounds very mellow (I guess some would say "warm") and seems to have significant bass response.

It makes for very pleasent bedroom experiences with nice warm, mellow sound that's easy to listen to. That's at low volume of course, the only volume the SA-10 is capable of.

I deleted both the loudness and tone control circuits from my PAS2. Sounds much more better without them. I do use it on my Onkyo though, it has very anemic bass without it.

I have a Yamaha amp, and the "loudness" control is a little different from the usual "button". Loudness on the CR and R series Yamahas is a variable contour pot, that removes mids and upper tones in a pre-determined EQ curve that varies with the control setting.

The Yamaha control is wonderful. It also comes with a "Pure Direct" button, so you have the best of all worlds.

My amps don't have tone controls - loudness switch, wuzzat? My JVC MX-1 has complex SAE tone controls, but I am completely indifferent to their use. All else being equal (which it never is) features and performance are inversely related.
