Electro-Voice Patrician 700
I thought that I would post this review of the Electro-Voice Patrician 700 speaker. I felt it would be a bit of nostalgia for those of us who are older and a bit of a surprise to younger members. Back in the 60's and 70's there were many large speaker systems. Fisher was a respected name back...

Well the 700 had an 18 inch woofer and I remember the T-35 tweeter and a T-250 horn. The 800 had that big 30 inch woofer and the speaker was designed to go in a corner with a huge rear port. The Tweeter was the up graded T-350. The mid horn with driver was 3 or 4 by 12 inches as I remember. Maybe still a T-250. I think the midwoofer was a 15" woofer. . The 800 could handle more power and had a 4 way crossover. The 700 was taller but the 800 was wider. We had customer with a 5.0 system with two 700's for the rear and two 800's for the front with the latest version of the Georgin for the center. This was way before HT systems. We used two 2105's for the patricians and a MC 100 for the Georgian. The C-26 had a center channel out put for the Georgian. The rear speakers used a either a Bozak or Fisher unit to generate a reverb sound for the rear channels. The gentle man lived in Juarez, Mexico and the room was very very large. 50 ft by 30 ft. would be my guess. We used electronic equalizers to refine and balance the sound because two of the Patricians on the left side were in corners but the right Patricians and the center Georgian were not. . It was an impressive system for sure. The 30 inch woofers went deeper, but I preferred the sound of Klipschorns my self. That big 400 HZ horn of the Klipsch horn gave extra clarity the Ev's couldn't match. For at a lot less money I would have rather had the EV-6 with the 18" woofer, etc at 1/3 the overall size. with more clarity than the big speakers it seemed to me. They would also fit in an average room.

Aside from obvious visual differences, I think it was mostly the upper mid driver on the 8HD horn -- T250 in Pat700, 1824 or T25A in Pat800.
Seems messy and would take a bunch of digging as 800's were made at least '62-'72 and then reintroduced in '80 for Japan only and '82 for US/domestic. Over that time, the Pat800 crossover was listed as 100/800/3500 (X1835) and at the end listed in the Pat800 EDS as 100/800/5000...and there were 8 ohm T25A's and blah blah--again, it'd take digging and it's messy. Lifespan of 700's I never had straight (ping @mhardy6647 @djnagle) but the full page introduction ads for 700's started in 1961. I think both of them needed different stereon models (200 for 700), too.
Dimensions for the 700 are from a High Fidelity Jan '62 review and there was an X1735 xo listed in a catalog as the same/usual "full 1/2-section". The X1835 EDS is still up.
Practically in 2023, there's little difference except for what can still be fixed and it's not the 30W's or T250's or T350's or SP12's anymore as far as I know.
