EPI 100 or Dynaco 25?

Recommendations on EPI 100 speakers or Dynaco 25 speakers to go with Yamaha CR-620 receiver or other models of speakers that might pair well.

If possible listen to them and make up your own mind; no one here can tell you what you like, only what they like. Speaker preference is subjective and what sounds sublime to one person will sound like Hell to another. Recommendations are only useful if they come from people whose taste you know and trust; even if you know and trust that taste to be bad a person can serve as a reverse barometer.

Hello!
I had Epicure M-100 early version I even write to Winslow Burhoe with question about speaker he great guy and 100 VERY nice speaker
I have Dynaco 25 too more than one and different driver versions and box vent location
You cannot make mistake with EPI but for this compare EPI100 or Dynaco25 you will like 25 better
No comparison and 10" woofer make huge difference
I bet money you like Dynaco much better after all said and done
Both good speaker though

The Dynaco A-25, Epi 100, AR-4x and Smaller Advent are the best selling bookshelf speakers from this era. All were affordable, well-constructed, easy to drive, and sounded good. The numbers in which they're still around attest to their durability (with some maintenance). They all have their proponents and detractors, but generally speaking these are speakers that most people like and few people hate. So, while we have no way of knowing your specific tastes chances are any of them would more or less fit the bill for you. At the very least they're all a perfectly good place to start building a vintage system. The one thing I won't say, though, is which is the best or worst of the lot. I'm not sure I even know--and I've owned all of them.

Of course there are of other options worth considering as well, hundreds, maybe thousands of them. That's the problem.

Good luck.

Personally, if they are not the early version of the Epi 100 (walnut with masonite tweets),

Can you give us more info about this?

Did the sound suffer with the plastic tweets? Do you have an opinion on the Epicure tweets with the metal plate? Just curious why you left off all but the early 100s. As for wood or vinyl, that is obvious and the vinyl is a separate speaker model designation.

Some true words to what you saying but design and quality of Dynaco drivers not even in same class with AR Advent or EPI
Rest about SYSTEM sound is subjective I am agreeing with you
But he not ask what to buy from classic list he ask Dynaco25 compare to EPI100
Choice easy if only even base on woofer physics
JJ

PS to make AR sound best NOTHING easy about driving them AR always seem to get matched up to amp too small still sound ok but nothing like what can do with big amp 100 clean watt each side or better! ; - ) then people appreciate how good AR possible to sound

I've had my 100v for about 6/7 months now and what they went for when new I think they were worth the asking price. Already re foamed and a very good job w/ very good fitting spring tabs which I don't care for but are better than the DCM I have. I have a Polk forumite who bought out a collection of Advents he was so strong on them. I've never heard a bad word about the DynacoA-25 almost the excuse the phrase 'almost the perfect speaker

You'll hear some now. Poor dynamics. I had them back in the 70s and found the poor dynamics, poor even for their size, very frustrating. It seemed they never bloomed, never opened up and sounded lifelike, they'd almost get there and then pop the tweeters. I tried doubling them up and that was a little help but in the end I dumped them. Not a bad speaker by any means but they sure as Hell had faults. Of course most conventional box speakers back then were mediocre. I was using a Thorens record player with an ADC-XLM and Dyna Pat-5 and ST-400.

My experiences, my opinions; I'm not speaking ex cathedra.

Actually there have been several negative reviews posted here on AK about the Dynaco A25. Sure, they have their fans, but it is far from universal.

I owned a pair for a few years. Don't regret selling them.

Numbers vary and no way to ever know not that matters anyway but Dynaco25 POSSIBLY the biggest selling speaker of all time maybe even sell a million pairs!

links above

I know the differences, heck I sold the Epicure 10 back then. I'm curious why MZ would only want the early version of the EPI 100 and not later versions compared to the A25. Sonics, build quality something has to be the reason.

Except need to breathe air eat food have water and sleep what IS universal? Especially when talk about 5 senses

I have been comparing my 100's vs. a25's over the past few months using my Marantz 2230. They're both quite enjoyable, but different - I can't really pick a favorite.

I've owned both. They are both excellent. Just recap whichever one you get... Makes a huge difference. I currently have A25XL's.

I used to have a set of 100's. They are nice speakers but the A25's are better. The EPI 100 sounds like a good, inexpensive speaker. The Dynaco A25 sounds like a great speaker. If you tried to buy a new speaker that sounds like the A25 you would be pushing $1000 for the pair. I still have my A25's.
