how does the ground wire connect to an SL10?

There should be a screw on the back of pre amp, integrated amp or receiver. If not connected it will cause a hum. Nice to see another Sl-10 owner.

Perhaps what you need is either one of these ground wires.

If you have a cheap junky RCA plug, cut the "ring" part from it and use just the center post. It fits in there perfectly. I used a crappy one from Radio Shack and just ripped the outer ring off with pliers to make the ground connection on my SL-5.

would a banana plug work? is that the same diameter as an RCA tip?

yeah, was just seeing that the Banana plug is about 4mm, the RCA is just about 3.175mm (1/8")

trying to find an 1/8" banana plug or bullet connector.

Find an ac/dc adaptor plug (NOT PLUGGED INTO THE WALL OUTLET) with multiple sizes and find one the fits into the SL-10 ground socket. Then solder a wire to the plug and use it as the ground wire.

what if I bought a 1/8" fine thread machine screw with a pan head, put a nut on it to secure the ground spade wire and then filed down the threads on the tip so that it fit into the ground plug on the turntable.

Here's how I make them. Go to a hobby shop and get a piece of 1/8" OD brass tubing. Cut about an inch off it and solder your ground wire to that short piece then plug it into the Technics turntable ground lead socket . It fits perfectly and shouldn't take you more than 10 minutes to make.

The one I got is using a banana like plug that looks kinda like a bullet soldered to a wire.

It requires a proprietary plug which is no longer available. I use wire with a soldered end.
