I am so old I remember........

...Having to take a Bath in the morning, & again at night, because NOTHING was air conditioned & everybody sweated like borrowed mules here 10 months out of the year...

You could put your cable channel box between channels and get Escapade. Woo WOo!!! Uncles and friends returning from Vietnam. Watching the Red Sox on a Saturday afternoon on the porch on the black&white tv. Watching the first space shuttle launch with Marty and his folks. Romper Room. Community Audition on Sunday mornings... 'Star of the Daaaaay, who would it be?" Streakers. Gas lines.

How could I forget to mention "Combat" with Vic Murrow (or at least that is how I remember his name). Sorry, Vic, it won't happen again.
Cowboy shows like Gunsmoke, Gene Autrey, The Rifleman, The Lone Ranger, Zorro, Hopalong Cassidy, and later on Bonanza and Rawhide. Some were singers, others were just tough guys.

Nobody mentioned the DIY Color TV kit that came out in the fifties....it was a colored plastic film that you applied to the TV's picture tube and gave you blue skies....well, maybe....and green earth...well, maybe...if the film's colors just happened to coincide with what was being televised...

How about the magnifying glass you would put in front of your TV so you could see your 17 incher as if it was a huge, never heard of 21. If you had both, the color and the magnifying kits you were set for the summer.

I remember

I remember Jack Parr showing a newsreel of beatlemania in England.
I remember Steve Allen before Jack Parr and the great cast of comedians that he used. "The man on the street"

"The Pink Panther" cartoon was on every Saturday Morning.

Tom Hatten Hosted "The Adventures Of Popeye"

There was no cable tv,

"On TV" came out to rent movies and watch fights commercial free.

"Select TV" followed, which we had. They would give you a teaser sample of the movie that was running and then you would either rent or return to regular tv.

A remote control was either wired and if you did not have that, it was your kid (Turn it to channel 7)

Kids respected their elders.

Family dinners every night. Microwaves were a luxury appliance.

Clint Eastwood Westerns on the drive-in movies, we were allowed to watch the cartoon before the movie, but then had to lay down in the back seat.

Rotary type phones, I got in trouble once because I accidently dialed New York (I think area code 212) when I was trying to dial Grandma (213) area code.

You did not pump your own gas. Two attendents would come out after you ran over the bell strip thing and pump gas, check tire pressure, clean windows and check under hood. You could just pull up if you needed air in your tires or water in radiator, for free as it was at every island.

Credit cards were past through a slide printer and you signed your receipt and got a copy. Stolen Credit Cards were listed in a book.

I am so old I remember......

Great health if you remember.
I can barely remember what store to go to when my wife gives me a list.

I'm so old I can remember going grocery shopping with my mom as a kid, and watching as she pushed the cart down the aisle casually smoking a cigarette. When she was done with it, she'd grind it out beneath her shoe on the supermarket floor. That's what everybody did.

I'm so old, I remember going to the dentist, who would leave a big cigar burning in an ashtray atop a filing cabinet, returning to have a puff every so often as he plotted his next move on the filling he was giving me. The fingers he plunged into my unsuspecting mouth in order to tug on an errant tooth were yellow with nicotine.

Jack Paar. Never remember watching him personally, but remember hearing my parents talking about him.

Same era - Dagmar (They named protruding Caddy bumpers after her) 42-24-39, appearing on many early comedy shows - Jack Benny, Jerry Lester etc.

Plymouth Satellites. Sheesh, my father had 2 of them. Green and light blue, I think. They never took pictures.

IIRC, Dagmar was a BIG ol' gal-Something like 6' tall...She towered over the relatively diminutive Lester. While mostly she was the "Fall guy" for his quips, every now & then, she'd get in a pretty good zinger...

I remember when we in Canada changed over to the metric system and gas was 19 cents/liter........or litre for my American friends.

I remember wanting to call someone on the phone, and picking up the receiver, rattling the hook and bellowing "Hello, Central!" into the mouthpiece on the wall (not! )

Seriously, I remember watching the first moon landing live on TV, and other stuff that makes me feel antique!

Playing board games like Chutes and Ladders, Candy Land, Go to the head of the class, Parchisi, and loving it. We all played at the same time!

There was only one boxing federation.

Roller Derby. Haystacks Calhoon, Ricky Starr.

My mom taking me on the bus to Ozone Park and the record store. She'd audition the 45 in a small sound room.

Wham-0 slingshots, Daisy Red Ryders. Fanner 50s!

Toy sets from the Sears catalog....Fort Apache was our favorite. Also loved the WWII green plastic soldiers, the tanks and Jeeps, cannon. And the King Arthur castles.

You can tell it's Mattel, it's swell....
