I have been considering doing the Burr Brown Opamp upgrade. They sound pretty special now. Does replacing the opamp make a notable difference. Driving a 250m and a 510m.

The original OP amps could use an upgrade. The factory chips are an old arcane design and unabtanium. I had a 3600 that I acually gave away quite awhile back.
It just sounded plain and lifeless to me. I just didn't want to go through the hassle of running jumper wires, cutting traces and swapping out a few resistors to make a more modern OP work back then. The 3800 is the same preamp with Dolby added. Once restored, I thought the older model 33 sounded much better.

It looks like a fairly easy mod. I have all the parts. Would like to hear from someone who has actually heard the before and after. Is it worth the risk of screwing up a perfectly good 3800?
