would you buy? Think about this. If you could not afford McIntosh whose brand would you buy? This maybe a back door question as to whom #2 is.

Hmm, "did not exist" and "could not afford" are two different things. If McIntosh did not exist I would have kept my Balanced Audio Technologies gear. If I could not afford McIntosh then I would not be able to afford BAT either so I would probably have a mixed system of used components as I've had for many years.

Mac owner for life.
If i could not afford to buy Mac gear i'd go with the vintage Pioneer Spec series gear & team that up with a Dynaco tube cd player & a pair of Klipsch Belle's.
If Mcintosh was no longer in existence i would rethink my whole position about audio,ive tried alot of hi end stuff ,none of it impressed my ears like Mac does,especially highly touted audiophile preamps,too sterile sounding.
The only high end gear that has allowed me to enjoy very long listening sessions is Mac gear, I think i'd be more tempted to go back to running vintage hifi gear as oposed to modern audiophile gear if Mac was no more.

If Mac didn't exist I'd probably go back to Krell. Not the super expensive stuff but the nice little integrated I used before getting my C45/MC402. The more I think about it the more I realize how easy Mac made my buying decision. The Mac sound that is. If there were no Mac I think a lot of us would spend a LOT of time comparing and shopping for just the right gear.

No question...Yamaha...as it has been since 1978...CA series until I got to know the B series (B-2) and the A series (A-1). When I first purchased a CA in 1978, I wanted an A-1, because a B-2 was TOTALLY out of reach; as was anything McIntosh.

Actually I think of it as a Swiss Mc
I love the colour and the nose and eyes on the front.I am now seriously contemplating ditching my search for a CDP and going to analogue!
