Thank You Ron and Ken and all from McIntosh,
I was lucky enough to be at the CEDIA show and the McIntosh equipment set up was my second favorite part of the show. My favorite part was the McIntosh staff, talking to Ron, Ken, Charlie and all the others was an informative thrill for me!
It looked like the show was a big success for McIntosh, they had the premier series set up and playing right out in the open and even with the backround noise it was pretty easy to tell it was something special. I spent a few hours at the McIntosh area and almost everyone who was walking by stoped for a listen and a smile.
After closer inspection of the C1000 preamp, it is not a question of weather to get one or not. The question is tube or solid state and how long before I can save up to buy one.
One interesting fact I was told was the MC2k amp project wanted to make a 4000 watt amp but they could not do it because you can't get enough power out of the wall to power a 4000 watt amp with this design!

The unit that looks like the cover is off actually had a clear cover on it and it is the tube preamp box for the C1000 preamp. It has 8 tubes in it all 12AX7s. The front 4 tubes are visable threw the front glass panel and they have a small amount of green fiber optic lighting at their base so the tubes not only glow they glow green, VERY COOL. The C1000 is truly an INCREDIBLE piece!

The new MCD201 cd/sacd player looks like a winner. They did not have it playing so I can only imagine how good it sounds. With its varible volume control it would be a great way to start a McIntosh system. Just get a MCD201 and a MC252 or MC275 and your choice of speakers and you would have world class McIntosh sound.

Yes those amps are huge. They are the new MC2KW a 3 piece mono block 2000 watt amp. Each of the 3 boxes is about the size of a MC602 about 12" high 18" wide and 18" deep. I would guess the weight at well over 100 pounds per box it might be as high as 150 pounds per box. The amps sounded great and during extended high watt outputs they made almost no heat! Actually we were hoping that a simple set of high quality headphones and the MCD201 could start a McIntosh system. The 201 should be $3k and ships before Christmas. The dealers can not order it yet as it is not in the system but will be soon.
The 2KW amps seemed to run OK at 4000 watts especially after the show shut down for the day and the line voltage came up. Loony volumes really. I do think these are superb sounding at a watt or two out though. I came over to the hall hours before the show opened one day and had a listen of some symphony and acoustic disks. The sound gently woke up the sleeping security guards..LOL..
