CEDIA show in Indy

I asked a several people going to cover to show to include the McIntosh booth in their picture taking and no one did so. I got the same "Must have slipped my mind" or "Didn't see them at the show" responses upon their return. Hardly anyone outside the faithful seems to know they exist, especially within the home theater crowd. It's all Denon and Marantz that people care about because that's all they're exposed to. McIntosh is owned by D&M Holdings so why the deluge of press releases from them and nothing but silence from McIntosh? Only thing I can think of is it has something to do with the fact that most of the new McIntosh stuff (not sure I can even talk about it) were hand-built prototypes and they don't release info until within 90 days of actual availability.

Someone must have taken pictures though!

Yes, X. There is a dual meaning there. Look back at the beginning of the thread for one meaning. It's up to McIntosh/Ron when to spill the beans but the press must have seen the stuff on display so why not talk about it? Unless there was a "No Photographs" sign up at the McIntosh booth and everyone was forced to sign a NDA or something...

We did have a good show and displayed the new XLS speaker line prototypes, the new MX119 HT Pre Pro at $5000 retail, the MVP 861 at $4100, both due in November as well as the MS300 mass music storage device concept with a 300 GB internal drive. The speakers were well received and the styling will be tweaked before they are introduced in January. The MS300 is a next year sometime product. It will store 1300 CDs using FLAC lossless codec or 50,000 songs using compression codecs. It will rip CDs off the web or internal library also.
The Home theater display was some 5.1 music with a 7.5 minute clip from the movie Hero, staring Jet Lee. The new speakers in a 7.1 configuration were used along with the MC135, MC207, MVP861 and two MVP851s. The screen was a 110 " Stewart 130, 16 x 9 and the projector was the V10 3 chip Marantz.
The new speakers sound good play very loud and can also be mounted in wall due to the shallow extruded aluminum cabinets. I particularly like the new PS113 400 watt powered sub and XLS 350 center / LCR speaker. All of the new speakers have rear pannel jumpers to mirror image the five tweeter array for L/C/R placement. The two towers, XLS360 and XLS340 are very slim and will be popular options to slim electrostatics since these handle real power and play loud, more than 110 dB.

The new speakers will have an 'X' in front of the name to differentiate them from the previous models. The LS320 will be replaced by the XLS320 but they are very different designs. It will go from an 8" woofer and 1" tweeter design to a 6" woofer and 5 x 1" tweeter design that is not only smaller but also very shallow. It can be used free standing or mounted on or in a wall. It should be a perfect match for the new PS113 subwoofer.

The MX119 is a little brother to the MX135 or a big brother to the MX134 depending on your point of view. It is more like the MX134 but with the extra surround modes of the MX135. It leaves some things out like upscalling to component video and only has 7 or 8 inputs plus a balanced input/ouput for 2-Channel only. I think it will be a great seller as not everyone needs a beast like the MX135.

The MX119 has balanced outs for the front three channels only and one stereo balanced in. It does trancode composit or S video to component.

Hey, I was close. This sounds better and better but why balanced outputs for the three front channels? A 2-channel balanced output made sense. It could used by those who want a separate amp and speaker pair for 2-channel listening while using the unbalanced outputs for a multi-channel amp and smaller speakers for home theater.
 
Three MC1201s or three MC501s are used on the front stage all the time. Lots of big theaters are being sold.

Will this MX119 decode all of the latest surround sound modes? Also, will it support 7.1 or is it a 5.1 system (or both)?
Will the specs be as good as the C46 for two channel? This seems to be just what I am looking for.

Yes, the MX119 is 7.1 and decodes all formats. It is also 24/192 and uses the high end TI Aurius processor, has pure analog bypass, all analog volume controls, and has a Phono section.

Way to go Ron! Looks like some of the ideas I whined about way back when are working their way into the Mac product line-up.

What's the cabling mechanism that you plan to use? SP/DIF, AES or USB?

Would this integrate with pretty much any type of computer/software?
 
MS300 has multiple digital and analog ins and outs, works with the web or a home network and RS232. Can spit out multiple streams of music especially in a home network to any web device.

Since it is still in the concept phase maybe there is time to replace that antiquated RS232 port with a set of USB2 and Firewire ports. If it's being released in 2005 it should at least have some reasonable connectivity, especially if it is to be used with computers or web devices. I can't remember the last time I used or even saw an RS232 port.
 
Firewire and USB2 are the way to go.

RS232, as twinbrook says is antiquated and pretty much useless at this point. Fine at one time to perhaps update the configuration of a device such as an internal ROM chip, but for high-bit/bandwith streams, Firewire and USB2 are the current de facto standards in connecting to computing devices.
 
It does not have one RS232 port it has 4 of them. In high end multi room, Crestron and AMX, it is RS232 control or no sale. Yes it will have many other connnections.
