Jbl Speaker ID Please

Sorry for all the suspense. Yes it was an auction...and yes I selfishly played it close to the vest. But they now are sitting in my living room. I'll post some pics tomorrow. From what I can tell I will need to refoam the woofers and one crossover is bad(I''m sure I'll be looking for some guidance with this).
They are beautiful!
Too cool! Thanks for all the info everyone.

teebomus,

congrats, what a find man. Really happy for you man! :thmbsp:

You dog. Jealous. :beerchug: I take back all those things I said about you. :D

I have seen them wall-mounted. That is probably what I would do (of course without drilling any holes in them). One member here, years back, posted picture of his minigons in his perfect awesome midcentury modern house (think Cameron's house in Ferris Bueller), and the look was stunning.

These have brackets on the back like they have been hung on a wall at some point. Before the auction took place I was talking to one guy who said he brought in his marantz receiver and tested them. He said the drivers were fine, but one crossover was "bad". The tweets look aluminum and are dinged up, but he said it was cosmetic and does no affect sound quality. I don't know if feasible to fix those dings or "pull out" the cones. Sorry still working on pics, dang Windows Phone.

A few pics

Wow. The cabinets already look really nice, and I bet they clean up to look like new. Do they seem smaller or larger than you expected? I have trouble imagining their size.

I was wondering who she was!:beerchug:

She looks almost like Grace Kelly in that shot.

I'm wondering if I can sit my big lcd tv on them when laid horizontal. As far as the size, they seemed big when I first saw them, but getting use to them now. Anyone have suggestions for finding surrounds that match the yellowish color? You think these are faded or that was the color?

Those old Lansaloy® surrounds started out white, I believe. They are unobtainium and it's customary to replace them with regular foam surrounds. People sometimes soften up the original surrounds with brake fluid but that is generally considered to be a Bad Idea.

That's the original Lansaloy surrounds I'd guess. Is it torn or cracked? If so foam is the only replacement available. I'm not aware of any foam available in that color, although that would be so cool if you could find some...

If it's an older model, might not be a good idea. However, maybe if you place a panel across the top for even weight distribution it's possible with a newer one. The newer models are much lighter. The one we bought recently literally weighs less than the box it came in.

Then again, if he's going to re-foam anyway why not try it first?

If you do, apply with q-tip!

:D
