Large Advent speakers - Not Bullnose!

Are they custom cabinets?

Looks like the the original, A series, though the label "Utility Cabinet"
is confusing me. The Utility is vinyl and not a beveled front.

A most excellent looking pair of The Advent Loudspeaker in walnut. We call the OLA but you can see we added the original to the name. Advent didn't use that word in the name.

Yes, they look so good, I wasn't sure they were original!

I also have a pair of bullnose. They also need the woofer foams replaced. I am looking forward to trying the stacked Advent setup!

The OP's pictures show an OLA with a walnut veneer cabinet. I have a similar pair in my garage.

Only the NLA came in a bullnose cabinet. Unfortunately, many call the OLA cabinet bullnose, even though it has a beveled front. There never has been an OLA with a bullnose cabinet. Bullnose refers to an edge or trim piece that is rounded. A bevel edge or trim piece, like on the OLA, has a flat surface that is at an angle to the other surfaces.

The glue on those is quite rubbery. I had the best luck removing it from the basket with a medium sized flat head screwdriver.

Thanks for the clarification. Searching a little harder, I have found some other beveled OLAs.

I complained to a mod about the fact that the Advent model determination thread called these early chamfered boxes bullnose and the thread was corrected since the OP is no longer on AK. There was only that one correction and some of the pics might still be mis-labeled but this is the source of the bad info calling this speaker the bullnose. Once it is on the web, it is the truth and it will not die out.

Remember we call it the OLA, not Advent, they called it The Advent Loudspeaker.

I can't make out the serial number on the one but it looks like it may have only 5 digits, which would make it having been manufactured in the very early seventies. The "A 247420" was made later, sometime in 1976, June-July?

And yes, excellent condition after refoaming.

The other serial number is A 247596.

I too have a set just like them in my garage - sitting. Not bad speakers and the cabinets are near mint and they are fully functional, but... My KLH Sixes beat them and are in primary rotation instead. Serial not 122618 and 122631.

These were built in the mid-70's. If the caps have not been replaced, you will want to consider doing that as well as replacing the surrounds. Note that there are at least 3 different versions of the crossover.

OK, cool. Very close, then. Not that it matters that much. I have a pair of very early Advents (1970) and several later ones (1975-76) and they pretty much all sound the same, even with the different crossover versions.

I hope at some point to get a pair of KLH Sixes and a pair of AR speakers and do a Cambridge, Mass competition!
