Let’s see those table lamps - vintage or modern

Almost finished- 13+ hours, one continuous vase-mode extrusion, 580 mm tall, 1mm wall, 0.25mm layers. It's going to use two of the G63 bulbs and the top and bottom from the previously posted lamp. After this print finishes, I will have to print the pieces that go into the twisted tubes at the edges.

Print finished, perfect! This is the general idea for when the whole thing is finished. I may have to add a wide base to ensure stability- it's pretty light and pretty tall- easy to knock over. I'll print another transparent piece for the top instead of green. It might work well as a pendant...

Just finished this one. Uses a GX-53 RGBW LED. The vase is 3D printed with Edge Glow Glass PETG filament from Keene Village Plastics with 1mm line/wall thickness. It's 638mm tall and about 270mm in diameter. It printed in about 13 hours. Once the solid bottom 3mm was finished, the walls are a single continuous extrusion all the way to the top. The filament contains some "bluing" that makes it look slightly blue like glass under normal light. The bluing fluoresces under blue light, so when the color is set to purple, red and blue LEDs are on. The blue light makes the vase fluoresce a pale blue, and the red light shines through and looks pink or purple. The camera can't quite capture it, but it looks really nice. Sort of like a cold flame.

I may add some clear glass marbles to add weight to the bottom to make it harder to knock over.

The vase is made from a 3rd order Julia set with parameters swept, then 500-1000 images are stacked and converted to a solid, and finally sliced in Cura and printed on UMMD, my corexy printer. In this one the top and bottom are the exact same shape and size, but rotated 60 degrees. The limited resolution of the math creates a nice surface texture. All the software I use to generate fractal vases and to slice is available for free online.

The Original and the Best...

'OG' 'original 1932 George Carwardine 'Anglepoise' (Banned by the BBC " In 1948 the Board of Governors of the BBC asked the head of the Variety Department, Michael Standing, to devise a guiding set of moral standards and protocols for the production of all BBC radio and television programmes. Standing produced what became known within the BBC as the "Green Book", whose purpose was to eradicate smut, innuendo and vulgarity from all BBC programmes. After producing the book Standing took to implementing his guidance with eccentric zeal. In June 1949 he issued a memo to all staff in which he forbade BBC employees to illuminate any room with an Anglepoise lamp unless the main ceiling or wall light was also illuminated: Standing held a firm belief that a man working at a desk in a confined space with only the light from a low-power lamp would nurture furtive ideas and produce degenerate programme material. " .. :))

My version largely original, but rewired with original spec cloth covered wire & with OEM Chromed 'friction control' nuts, and OEM 'rubber bushes' (I love the fact that these original lamps are SO good folk are still manufacturing miniscule spare parts for them.. a bit like Garrard Zero 100s.... :) )...

Sadly I had to replace the original Brass/Bakelite 'Bulb holder/on switch' with something more modern, but definitely in the market for a more original/satisfactory replacement.... I find plastic **** to be unsatisfactory on the whole..

It is a Testament to the power of 'Intellectual Property Rights' (patent number #404,615) that, despite the fact there have been a zillion inferior copies, NO ONE has ever manufactured a better 'Desk Lamp' than the original 'Anglepoise'...

(ps...'AudioKarma' chums...the (l)amps on the 'coffee table' are of a similar level of Design & Manufacture superb-ness... If only I can get the damn things working again.... :) )
