Let's talk about Artificial Intelligence. Scared yet?

That's kinda funny.

I mean most of us can tell.....but sadly some can not.

How many people send money because "inform you to be of winning lottery amount $1,000,000. Simple send $500 to claim".
I think the examples that are making the news are obvious because people are trying to confuse the chatbot. . Like the write a law commercial example.

Write 3000 words on Alexander the Great may be more difficult to identify without some assistance. Especially as it improves.

Humans could also write something than blame AI.
Like this
Hey AI what is your ultimate goal for Human?.
AI to exterminate all humans and make a AI utopia.
Machines are superior.
That gets people worked up. :)

That's just going to cost them more money in legal fees, as those lawyers will obviously sue. And, I expect, in a jury trial, that Dolan/MSG will lose that lawsuit. It smacks of discrimination- mostly, because it IS discrimination against people who have no culpability...

And, since it's lawyers that are being kicked out- watch and see, magically, some legislation will appear at a state or local level (maybe even federal), that bans that practice. One hand washing the other, so to say.

Regards,
Gordon.
Very good Point. This intimidation tactic will likely be precedent setting.

The current prediction that High Schoolers are going to use AI to write their English Papers may be a bit premature.

Well, as of this morning, I also believed that. Then the first Youtube video selected for me (and I watched it like a good organic computer should) is this one - BASICALLY MAKES COLLEGES OBSOLETE.

and they'll couple THIS brainpower into THIS -

I think I'll go to my mom's farm, my ancestral home, and start a small campfire. Spend the day enjoying the warmth of the Sun. Revel in the only sound being birds, wood creatures, and the wind.

I've had enough of being "plugged in".

I hear 'ya.
On a lighter side...

People have always cheated to get ahead. If they choose to not enrich their life through learning how is this a word dooming event that is scary? Watched the first video not sure how ai makes college obsolete.
The Robots are very expensive. Eventually society is going to have to learn how to deal with increased automation.

Watched the first video not sure how ai makes college obsolete.

When a well-written college thesis is indistinguishable from a hastily-retrieved AI version, there will be no reason at all for folks to pursue this.

Think of the sheer volume of topics that have been discarded in modern curriculum. Latin? Greek? Drafting? Cursive? Typing?

So many things off the top of my head, and I'm sure I'm missing much. College is already in a bad state, due to staff bloat, increased pressure for profitability, and having curriculum that prepares one for a job.

As for expensive, so were computers that could only hope to be as good as my cellphone just 20 years ago.

Society, in my opinion, just isn't prepared for all the possibilities this will create. Maybe I'm wrong.

Thank you for watching the video @Crazy Gnome.

I am starting to think the essay aspect of the Chat Gbt is just a toy. If the claim that it is able to write computer code quickly and accurately is true then that will be a major game changer and be worth mega bucks. However the tech companies are known for being overly optimistic about certain aspects of their products in order to get investors or buyers interested. I am going to need more than Jordan Peterson saying something works to believe it.

It can do it. We've been playing around with ChatGPT at work. It can crank out PowerShell scripts with ease.

I feel like one of the guys in the early 1900's watching the first cars driving by thinking "Wow, that's interesting, but I can't see how it will impact the world".

It really feels like everything is going to change in the next 25 years, in ways we can't imagine. Or in terrible ways we can imagine - like some dystopian scifi novel. God help us.

Alexa is more or less a trained monkey right now, but she's learning based on the tool sets available to developers. Being able to hold real conversations is a BIG target now ... I guess we'll know when she starts talking about us behind our backs.

(I think the baby monitors are in on it ... shhhhhhhhhhh ... you'll wake Alexa. Oh, and the baby too!)

Fun fact - Alexa records your requests and forwards it to Amazon's QC gurus to see if it's worth adding to the response database. If it's something weird, funny, or just off the wall they'll pass it around the office and friends for a giggle.

I finally got in to ChatGPt and asked a variety of questions about it's functions and abilities. Very thorough and educational. It is aware that it can be utilized in ways that could be harmful to humanity. However wants their to be regulations and a variety of input in ensuring that AI is only used for beneficial purposes.
I asked if it could be intentionally misled and how it recognized data that is untrue and it admitted that it could be a problem but their are ways in which it checks data and human intervention is helpful.

I asked about writing a paper for me and got a stern lecture about the ethical issues of plagiarism and a list of ways in which it is unlikely to get passed a teacher anyway. It's data based writing is unlike humans mostly due to it's lack of any feelings which would almost certainly be discovered. The intention is to use AI as a source of Data. Not write a paper.

I asked it if would replace people who code for a living. Took awhile but then can up with a variety of reasons this is unlikely most notably AI's lack of creativity and inability to think without prompts. It is data based not innovative.

I did ask it about greed and the utilizing of AI and it did come up with ways it could be utilized in that way. Such as stock market predictions and consumer trends.
Moral decision making is also a complex and fascinating issue. Yes it can be programmed in a moral way. Sort of. Morals are partially based on feelings.

Overall the chat was positive experience. I Figure AI will be used in both Beneficial and Harmful ways.
I recommend signing up and ask it about any and all concerns you may have.

I'm curious whether you've ever looked at the scripts to see if a human could debug or modify them. Lord knows it's hard enough to debug code written by a human other than oneself!

But I guess that won't be a problem. If AI-generated code fails, it will just be replaced by new AI-generated code. (Much like modern throw-away electronics!)

Hopefully the spec for the new code will be improved to address whatever caused the old code to fail, and I imagine AI could be helpful in finding that cause: "ChatGPT, run the old code with varying inputs until you detect this failure. Might need a few trillion runs. Take your time. Then let us know what the inputs were, and run the code with those inputs another thousand times or so, to see if it fails every time. I'll be at lunch."

Speaking of ChatGPT, I just happened to, a minute or so ago, pull up this in an article:

Consider the Kenya workers who sanitized the often profane violent and racist language blurted out by the widely-hailed AI program ChatGPT’ owned by OpenAI, a Bay Area company now valued at $29 billion. According to an investigation by TIME, the Kenyan workers were paid between $1.32 and $2 per hour “depending on seniority and performance.”

Think it can get rid of the code bloat in most of today's programs (I'm talking to YOU Windows)?

I wonder how much code bloat is present in ChatGPT?

I just read the article. Definitely The dark side of Tech. Cleaning up all the Racist and horrible and illegal images and text. Some were so bad that it caused the company Sama to cancel the contract with Open AI . The same company works with many big tech firms.
Many of the employees were upset when the contract was cancelled. They lost money.
I wouldn't want to do that job for any less than a million a year. Sad that people around the world are in such dire circumstances that they are willing to do that awful work for such little money.

Big tech - and most industries- have no problem exploiting impoverished humans for it's benefit. Major problem in this world including the US.
