MC252 or MC7270 or MC2205

I'm looking at getting one of these three. Any comments/preferences?
I will use it with a MAC 4100 receiver. Anyone know what pre amp the 4100 is similar to ?..thanks for any comments you pros can give..

Handlebar.......Of the amps mentioned, my choice would definately be the MC252. There are a lot of happy owners, and you don't see many on the used market because of that. Used, they can be found for about $2700. In that same price range ($2750) a used MC352 is a better value. The MC352 is a balanced amplifier, 350 watts per channel (typically puts out over 400 watts), and is a beauty to look at.

The preamp on the MAC4100 is a version of the C504.

I agree with everyone else, the MC252 is a great addition!

MC252 for sure. I had the MC7270 before the MC252. It was a great amp, but the MC252 is better sounding and newer. Even the oldest MC252 won't be up for recapping for a couple of decades. Most MC7270's are due for servicing or will be soon.

If you can swing the coin the MC252 is the best choice, however at $1200-$1500 less the MC7270 is a wonderful amp. You can use the extra coin to pick up the pre, I would suggest a C33 for a good match to the MC7270.

Why would the MC2205 be in that mix and not the MC2255?
250 WPC, System Test, Power Guard, Sentry Monitor, Autoformers, and one-fifth the THD rating of the MC2205. The 2255 may be my next Mac purchase, or the MC2155 at 150 WPC.

I really didn't know about or have seen the 2255. I now know that some folks feel it could be the very best Mac amp built.

From what I can tell they are highly sought (at times)... BUT you can get a brand new MC252 for $900 more than the MC2255 at Audio Classics.

Ryan, please understand... I would not hesitate to get one from you especially after my experience with Frank, getting my C504 pre. I did not mean to imply that you're priced high... With AC I know exactly what I'm getting.

I have a very nice MC7270 for my bedroom system. It is a wonderful amp, but if given the choice of that or a MC252, I would pick the MC252 without hesitation!
