Miata to Mustang

Indeed!

Not according to the kid .... but who knows.
He said .... I just looked down at my radio for a brief second

He also said he was only going 40 kms/hr .... in a 30 kms/hr zone by the way
Hard to believe with that kinda damage to his car.

Yep the process has begun ..... we both got approved Bodily Injury claims to treat the minor issues we do have.
Mine's not so minor .... re-injured an already permanent injury from a previous accident - also found 100% NOT at fault to be clear. Impacts my walking and certainly my pain levels.

But no broken bones or smashed in faces - so we feel fortunate for sure - could have been worse.

I have no idea how the insurance company will approach this .... 11 year old car.
But only 29,000 miles and mint except for a few stone chips.

....frame damage? Don't know but that will have a bearing on their decision.

Gotta get it to the shop and let them take it apart.

Time will tell.
In 1991 I had as a second car a 1979 Monte Carlo it had 33k had to fight with the insurance co to fix it. ! The lady on the phone said a separate adjuster would have to approve it and doubted that was the original mileage ! I said bring him on and also I need to hear an explanation how a car with 133k would still have the original GM head lites and fan belts and GM hoses ! The adjuster came out looked at it for 5 min approved it and offered to buy it from me ! Had it fixed sold it at 89 k made a profit yrs later ran into the same guy that bought it ask me if I had any more cars to sell !

Just a short update ...... got a call from the shop co-owner and he wanted to ket me know where things are at.

Parts are not quite all in ..... but as soon as they are the shop will begin the repair process.

Mid August is the projected date now for the car to be done.

We will see.

Something to consider when settling up with the insurance company - if your repair shop and/or the insurance company reports to Carfax, your car will forever have the "wrecked" tag attached. That could seriously affect the value down the road.

Just food for thought.

Hi,

The accident will in fact show on a Carfax I assume .... here in Canada at least (and maybe the same there) Carfax Reports have different categories listed - Accident/Damage / Service Records / Recalls / etc

So the date ... the fact that it was a collision and the amount of damage will likely show up
To my knowledge I can't do anything about that.

But the term "wrecked" will not be stated.

When we sell.....and we get asked about the damage I have the damage estimate from MPI (our insurance Co) and can show that in fact there was no structural damage (ie. frame) and was just remove and replace parts, etc

I'm not overly concerned about this .... at the end of the day it is what it is.

Thx

I have heard of a concept called a diminished value claim in which you get an extra amount from the insurance settlement specifically to compensate for the loss in resale value from the Carfax report.

Hi,

I have never heard of that .... and am quite certain that doesn't exist here.
We don't have competitive private insurers here for vehicles......we have a Crown Corporation (Provincial) that is the one and only vehicle insurance option in the Province.

But I will check with our Broker and confirm.

Thx

Hi again,

As expected there is no such thing available here.
My broker did mention a ......
(new car protection) however it is only available on vehicles that are “Brand New”

Thx again

Got a call this morning ..... everything is coming along nicely

.... and on Monday we will be able to go and pick up the car

Having only had it 4 days before the accident I have forgotten most everything about it ... except it's red :)

A week earlier than they initially projected ..... I'll take it!!

The car looks like it came back in an OK condition.
Would have liked to have seen the 'before' pics after the accident.
Having owned a '04 Mustang convert, I find it hard to believe yours didn't have any frame damage based on the pics of the car that hit you.
Sorry it got crashed to begin with, original paint, nice looking cars are getting harder to find as I'm sure you're aware.
I'd be asking for some compensation for the lost time this past month when you haven't been able to use your car as intended.
I hope you're able to recover to the point you were before physically. I have a back injury from a head-on from years ago that raises it's ugly head when I lift something wrong. Not fun at all.

Indeed an accident like you were in often has a lasting impact ..... hope most days you cope ok!

This '14 is a substantive car .... especially the rear end.
And that Ford Focus just crumpled as you saw.

We were very grateful that there was no frame damage .....

You are right .... these are getting harder to find.

Although my injuries were not serious .... torn rotator cuff .... separated vertebrae in my neck and a re-injury of the peroneal tendon in my right foot/ankle/leg with my connective tissue disorder and peripheral neuropathy healing takes longer.

So just keep at it each day .... the Physio is doing his part .... I need to do mine and it ends up wherever it does.

We'll get all the fun driving in we can before winter hits ..... hoping for a nice long fall.

Thx!
