I am very saddened by the news of Zilch's passing. My thoughts and prayers go to his family and friends.

I read almost every project thread he started here, as well as the great contributions he put on the Lansing Heritage forum. If anyone hasn't seen it, this monster thread is another example of his unstoppable curiosity and positive work ethic.

After years of stalling I was inspired to build a set of speakers after reading the Ewave thread. I followed his lead and used LE14A woofers and they turned out great, just as he said they would. Then I built a 2nd set and I hope to build a few more pairs soon.

Even though I never met him, I will sincerely miss him.
 
I just found out and am overwhelmed with his passing. Gosh, I'm going to miss him. One of those people that you knew he would always be there for you. He always had time for anyone on any level. I'm stunned.
I can't imagine how the people who were very close to him must feel. We will miss you Zilch. John
 
I'm very sad to read these posts but I know he left all of us better for experiencing his unique and giving spirit.
 
Oh man! I didn't even know he was ill. I loved reading his posts. This is quite saddening to hear of his passing. :(
 
ugh- i'm sitting here listening to a set of econowaves, and have a pair of indignia's in the other room. he patiently answered some q's for me as i blundered my way toward completing. i am so sorry to hear this, and i know a huge force on AK will be missed. i will look forward to Zilchlabs.com
 
Very sad news.
I never met Zilch in person, but I had the fortune to have discussed audio with him.
The one that sticks out the most in my mind was when Zilch asked me to close one of the ports of my JBL 4507 cabinets to tune the JBL 2225H from 40 Hz to 35 Hz and post my impressions on either here or lansingheritage.org. He then ran his software and posted his graph. The result on his graph was exactly what I posted as hearing.
That was fun.
Not only was Zilch a great help to the audio community, he also had a great sense of humor in a hobby that sometimes looks only at the results with a lack of humor.
He will be missed.

We’ve registered the domain of www.zilchlab.com but regrettably I’ve not had a chance to get much done since he was diagnosed a few months back. That is going to change. Zilch is survived by the untiring spirit of DIY speaker building and the pursuit of accurate data. This is a "No BS Zone".

Wiredbecker, I feel for the loss and thank you for the post. Be strong and keep the audio faith alive, Zilch I'm sure would want it that way!!!
 
Wow. Ouch. As a person who like many has been addicted to Zilch posts and the mayhem / excitement they created for the last few years, this leaves a hole. Losing a man I consider a friend leaves a bigger hole. I was fortunate enough and will always remember visiting the lab and being patiently taught by this methodical no b.s. giant of a man. He is one who truly gave freely of his knowledge while keeping a terrific sense of humor about it all. To me he embodies the audiokarma spirit and I still feel a tinge of guilt for not feeding back my weak attempts at measurements I have taken on my Zilch inspired systems.

Zilch, I'll bring the data with me when we meet again, you can tell me if it has any meaning. I think I know your answer already. :)

Oh my God. I just found this thread. I had no idea. I didn't know Zilch but he was kind enough to answer a lot of my questions and his posts throughout this forum and others have been so helpful to me; I can honestly say he's changed my life in some very pleasant ways. I am really sad to hear this.
 
I haven't been on in a while and it didn't take me long figure out something was wrong. Such sad news.

I just knew him through his posts and was able to bounce things off him on a few of his threads. He was a bit of a mystery to me since he didn't have any information on himself, only his wealth of speaker knowledge. I guess even that goes along with "more data, less wank" policy.

There will be a gaping hole on AK that will be impossible to fill now that he has passed.

Thank you for the picture and video, now I have a face to match with the little jbl avatar.

His legacy will live on through modded speakers for years to come.

Zilch,

You will be missed tremendously. You've helped so many here with all the info and insight you've injected into the AK community. You were what many here consider a true asset to this place. You also have many friends here who are so glad that your contributions will be around for many years to come. You've made your mark in the audio world as well as a mark on many peoples lives.
