most beautiful electronics of all time

When is a Marantz NOT a Marantz? When its a Fisher! The rare Marantz 101-R tuner, an actual item they sold prior to coming out with the 10b tuner. At the time, it was their answer to NOT having an excellent tuner of their own. Classic Marantz lines, simplicity but a sheep in wolf's clothing...I picked this one up a few years ago.

Nice. I'm a huge Marantz fan. I have and have have had stacks of equipment fro early to late 70's. I have never seen one of those. Is the tuner worse than the 23 or model 24 preamp/tuner?

The round dial Scotts do look terrific. I don't own one, but would rank them high on the most attractive gear list.

Some designs stand the test of time. It seems likely the that designer of the Sansui AU-9500 (1974) was an admirer of the H. H. Scott LK-72 (1961). Both still look great, and a modern amp with a similar design would probably sell well today (pictures are not mine, from the web).

I agree with this 100%. Both items sound nice, are well made, are reliable, styling is timeless. Both pieces looked nice when new. They look as nice today, and will even 50 years in the future. Timeless design and engineering.

The early seventies Sony gear is attractive stuff. It looks even more "silvery" than other brands of that era, if that's possible. The TA-1130 integrated is a personal favorite. Sony built this amp for several years, the earlier versions had smooth knobs, but most, including mine, seem to have the knurled knobs.

Sony centered the company name at the top of the face plate, like Marantz did with the 22XX receivers, but there was no other lettering to the right or left on the Sony, giving it a very clean look. I believe Marantz and Denon still follow that practice on some of their pro gear.

It is an excellent tuner, one of the earliest two-channel (simulcast) tuners Fisher made. As the story goes, Marantz was developing their 10b tuner but it wasn't quite ready. So they made a deal with Fisher to place a Marantz-look faceplate on the Fisher 101R tuner, and sold them like that until the 10b was ready. In Saul Marantz' opinion, it was the best mono tuner out there at the time...with an outboard MPX it was a very good stereo tuner.

Thanks! Saul should have kept using Fisher tuners. The development of the 10, 10B, 20 and 20B really drained the company. Of all the Marantz tuners I've had, I always wanted and never bought a model 23.

Wow... that turntable and all of those Marantz components really are beautiful. If they sound as good as they look then there'd never be a reason to own anything else! Not that it's in my plans (or my budget) but I guess that if I were to upgrade from the old Marantz receiver I have, I might be looking at separate components like that. I've always liked the look of Marantz gear, but these separates are even a level op from the receivers that I'm used to seeing...

I noticed that @Greg Nal posted on this thread which prompts me to make a comment. I have engaged many people on this site asking very rudimentary questions or seeking very basic advice. The responses have always reflected a sincere desire to help me with my problem. I realize it is a wonderful community.
Last week for the first time I purchased an item from an AKer - @Greg Nal What a gentleman. His advice and insight were invaluable. He serviced, preped, packaged and shipped the item as if he was sending his daughter her most prized possession. I simply want to thank Greg and all the others who have been so generous with their time and expertise.
