Multiple turntables?

For you guys with multiple turntables… what kind of switching selector do you use?

I have seen some on the forum suggest a Radio Shack selector. I had one for my game boxes but question the fidelity for audio.

While most any switchbox will work for line-level sources (tuner, tape, etc.), switching low level sources such as a TT may not work well. That's one reason TT interconnects are shorter than others; mag cartridge signals don't like anything else between them and the preamp.

Of course, I haven't actually tried to do it - but if I did I think I'd look for something better than the el cheapo switchboxes around...perhaps something from Niles or Russound.

The obvious answer is multiple phono stages. Since a line stage, an integrated amp, or a receiver has multiple line level inputs, it can accommodate quite a few turntables that way.

The signal level of a TT is soooo low, that the switch contacts will corrode with atmospheric contaminates. And unless you also switch the ground (so that only one table is grounded), you will have all the other tables' grounding system in the loop.

Vinyl1 has the best, noise and trouble free suggestion. Otherwise, do as I do and plug and unplug.

I have 2 on my pre-amp and one on my integrated amp. I do need one more. 78 bug is starting to bite.

That just gave me an idea. How about a pre-amp (my ART Pre-amp has it's own grd) connected to CD or other line-in ? One of my TT's connects to my PC that way, why not to a receiver line-in ??

I got four amps, each with their own turntable. I can move about the turntables to different amps for plug and play, but I don't have a switch because of the reasons stated above.

How do you have your speakers connected to the four amps ?
