New McIntosh C52

I'm a bit old school in my system. I strictly play CDs on two Integra 5 disc players. I am now using the DAC in the C52 for those CD players. I have the McIntosh M85 tuner. I use 4 Opera Quinta speakers. My amp is the Parasound A21. Power protection by PS Audio. I listen to internet radio on a Grace Reciva into a ADC then using the DAC in the C52 again. It's sort of convoluted but it works. Most of my cabling is by River Cable.

Question, you say your using PS Audio for power protection. Are you by chance using a P-3, P-5 or a P-10 ? The reason I ask is I'm using a P-10 and I think it may be "coloring" the sound. Maybe I'm not getting the "McIntosh sound" from my preamp/amp. It was a good deal that at the time I didn't want to pass on. I have a friend that'll buy it from me. I'm considering it.
A local dealer has/had a demo C52 for sale. I talked to them last weekend. We didn't come to a price I was comfortable with. My bitch was I spent about $8 grand here four years ago, where's the repeat customer loyalty? I told them I may be back and that my C48 works just fine.

Figure a 15% disc. Go in with C-Notes, no plastic & no check. Walk in sometime before summer's out, late in the day after he's been looking @ retail walls all day & tell him you're ready to deal. Flash the big wad of C-Notes & ask him if he's ready. He'll sing a canticle to a different tune. Money talks. BS walks. Then report back.

Actually I am using a PS Audio Power Plant Premier. I had it fixed a couple of years ago so I decided to hang onto it until it dies. As far as that demo C52, McIntosh has a trade-in program going on. Didn't they discuss that with you??

The McIntosh email I received a couple of weeks ago said it ended July 31st. I did call them (the dealer) on Saturday the 30th to discuss the trade-in program. I told them I have a MC302 and a C48 and either one would work for me (one unit for one unit per trade-in policy.) I could here him on his computer and he comes back and tells me I'd be better off selling those myself (yeah, right.) I'm sure the owner told him to sell, sell, sell everything on the floor (they are moving soon.) so he wanted to push the demo sale as vs the trade-in program. Personally, I don't care for this place very much, didn't 4 years ago and still don't, but if I can find a deal I'll go for it weather I personally care for someone or not. I only have to deal with them for a short time. The McIntosh will be around forever. I think I'll wait another week or two. If they still have it and want to sell great, if not I'm in no hurry, I'll wait for another deal to come-along down the road.

I deal with Overture AV in Delaware, a good place to go if you are somewhat local (no sales tax.) They are liberal as far as the trade in dates are concerned. It sound like your Mac dealer runs a slack ship.

I have never used the DACs in the Integra players. I have used stand alone DACs until my purchase of the C52.

I will give high marks for the DAC I was using previously. The NuPrime DAC10 uses the Sabre ESS 9018 chip and it sounds excellent. It's priced around $1500 and is worth the money if you are looking in that price range.Sweeeeeet! How I would love to have 8 bands of EQ.- - I think that Ron C. mentioned the DAC in the C52 is the same as in the C47. I just finished doing an A/B with the C47 and my current preamp and stand-alone DAC, and can attest to the fact that the built-in DAC is first rate and of very high quality with excellent sonics and drive. The rest of the C52 ain't too shabby either. ;-J Very nicely done. Should bring you hours and hours of music bliss.

Gotcha. Integra actually did use quality DACs for many years and had earned a reputation for good sound in addition to HT utility. Connect one of the players RCA outs to an unused input on the C52 and then switch between them in real time. This would allow you to hear the difference between the DAC in the Integra vs the DAC in the C52.

To me there would be no point in that experiment. The Sabre DACs will be superior in listening to music.

Yes, I've heard of Overture AV. I believe I've visited their web site before. Agreed, about my local Mac dealer. I don't think they move much Mac gear.

If you read the audio mags they advertise there frequently. It's surprising your dealer is still a Mac dealer. I was told that McIntosh did a house cleaning a couple of years back. If you didn't sell your quota of Mac gear, they dropped you.
