Do new threads make it onto the new posts forum ?

Activity on AK varies, I would think a new post or thread could get pushed off the first page of view or search hits and into relative oblivion quite quickly during busy times.
Sometimes I think the reason for being ignored is because the thread or post is too contentious, or is against AK rules in some way. Other reasons could be 'posted in the wrong forum', or so poorly worded that the post makes little or no sense.

Another thing to consider is - which section is it being posted in? AK has become a forum with many different sub-forums, many of which overlap considerably.
Let's imagine that you were making a post about a Pioneer A/V receiver. You could put that post in "General Audio Discussion", "Solid State", "Home Theater & Video", "Pioneer Audio", possibly also "New Gear - Values", "Member's Systems", etc.
Each sub-forum carries it's own variables.
With sections like "General Audio Discussion" and "Solid State", you get a lot of traffic, so more people will see your thread, but who knows how many of them will be familiar with your gear or actually have anything to contribute. Due to the busy subforum, your thread will likely be pushed off the front page within a day.
Sections like the manufacturers forums have much less traffic, so your thread will probably stay on the front page for a week. You might not get a reply right away, but when you do it will probably be from someone familiar with your gear or at least the brand.
IMO too many people just post in the main sections ("General Audio Discussion", "Solid State", etc) hoping that the increased traffic in those sections means that they will get a quick reply. It's possible but not a guarantee. Many who do have valuable information to post in that thread might not even see it before it is pushed off the front page. It's not uncommon for me to be doing a google search and find empty threads on here that I very much would have replied to if I had ever seen them - probably because the threads spent barely a handful of hours on the first page of whatever section they were in.

Nope. You don't see them because you saw it when you posted it so it's no longer new to you and won't show in your new post list, but it will still show up in everyone else's for those that use that function.

Most people probably don't spend every day on the forums. People take vacations, people have jobs, other things come up in life. It's entirely possible for someone to simply not see a thread before it is already on the 2nd or 3rd page, or even worse. I'm also not sure what you mean by a thread being "great". Many are just people who need help, or are curious about something. I like to help people when I see a question being asked that I have an answer to, but I don't dig 5 pages deep into every sub-forum looking for those threads.
