Now in the ADS 910 club

While my envy for those fortunate enough to have found a set of ADS L910 speakers, I will admit that I have wanted a set since I bought the L810's back in the late 70's, and 910's were just that much more$! I do have some nice ADS sets 6 to be exact, The L980 is a formidable speaker even by todays standards, it is the largest "bookshelf speaker" made by the company(I say that with a wink of the eye as they are far too big for any bookshelves in my home), and is the only speaker that shares the same tweeter and midrange with the coveted L1590, it features a 12" cast woofer rather than the two 10" woofers in the 1590. I feel like I belong in the club simply because this is one, a great ads speaker, and two, because I will always be looking for the right opportunity to get either a set of the L910, or the L1590.

Nice looking speaker! When you track down a set of 910's, hook them up, turn your system on for the first time, make sure you're ready to sit down in awe and shock! They are that good!

I got these hooked up, and noticed the tweeters were inop. Simple fuse change took care of that. The crossover cable is loose, and when you move it around the drivers will cut out. The bummer is I fried my recently serviced JVC M-7050 amp. Not even two minutes into some Joe Sample and it went into protect and I smelled the magic smoke. Back to the repair shop it goes.

That sucks! I've got two of these amps, a third one on the way from Japan! This amp with the 910's is jaw dropping! What had to be serviced the first time with the 7050?

Unfortunate.
I have posted elsewhere, but you really need to go thru the crossovers and check all solders and connections. De-oxit all contacts and tighten up the sockets on that darn 6 prong cable connection. Mine was cutting in and out as well until I did all of that, plus replaced the woofer NPE cap that were both bad. Remove the board from the plate and check all the solders. I had several that were loose.

Also check the wire connections at the drivers to make sure they are proper and tight.

Someone else did this but I copied it as well to cut down on the direct stress to the crossover. (oops, this photo reminds me I need to glue the sticker back on)

I do not have factory stands, so my 910s are vertical. A couple of times recently I had them playing loud enough to shake the grill right off one of them. Has this happened to anyone else?

No, but the windows were rattling! When I'm doing serious listening at volume, I take the grills off.

Yes, but true tri-amping is done with three amps. That's why I'm curious to see the hookup, the active crossover used and so on.

He is using 3 amps, yammy m80 on bass, mc 7270 (I think) on mids and mc30's on the tweets

Lot of fun stuff to read on here! Anyway, here is the latest update, and unfortunately the last. Due to copyright and patent issues, I won't be able to get these things made and sold to you all. Not sure how that all works, but I'd rather error on the side of caution. Sorry to everyone that wanted a set. :( I am bummed.

Hmmmm, they are out of business. Who could even protest? There are AR and KLH repro badges made and sold on fleabay. What info did you come across that caused this decision?

That's what I thought, too. He looked into it and said there is still activity on the rights. Even if I gave them away, he said it's still copies without permissions. It's not worth it to him to make them. Hands are officially tied. Bummer.

I wonder if he contacted the current rights holders, explained what the project is for, they may say it's ok. Or offer to make them, they get a small cut of the profits, and many 910 owners can fully restore them. Would they really care about this for 30 plus year old speakers hobbyists want to restore? Just a thought.
