It is all about how sensitive the speakers are.
Let use the HPM 100 as an example, the sensitivity is around 92. lets assume you use a 50 watt amplifier to get to a certain loudness, say 100 db. Now lets redesign the HPM 100 to make it more efficient and we come out with a loudspeaker with a 95db sensitivity. To get to the same loudness of 100 db, we now need only 25 watts. Improve it again to 98db and we now need only 12.5 watts. 101 db, you need 6.5 watts. 101db and you need 3.25 watts. 104DB and you need less than 2 watts to get to 100db. For every 3db increase in sensitivity, you need half as much amplifier power.

That is a very big pill to swallow. I guess I just have to see for myself BKs 18w system. I will have to hear to believe. I may be astonished and be converted but Iam skeptical. 18W compared to 300w. hmmm
