Pioneer Rack System

Sweet!! Nothing is without some sweat equity to get it back to good looking shape. Looking forward to seeing the pics! Happy for you that you got it all back in good shape.

Regards,

Bart

Nice stack of gear you have there. Gonna be worth the work to make it right even though that may be some hours. I rearranged some gear this past week and a friend came over to drop off his car and helped shelve a few units. He likes the big, rack-mount Crown preamp, power supply and output control units. Lots of silver and big meters. You have stacks and stacks of that now. Looking forward to your reports.

I'm about halfway done giving the gear a wipe down with a sponge and car soap followed by ammonia free windex and paper towels. This is a lot of work! Outside in shorts sweating in 40 degree heat!

Good God!! Could you imagine coming to a garage sale with that type of gear laid out!!!??

Lookin' good. Looks like the gear will get the TLC it deserves. You efforts will be rewarded.

I don't own any cassettes or reels so I don't really know what to do about those units - I can verify that things power on and light up but aside from that I am at a loss - of these units, the ones I am focusing on for restoration and evaluation are the SPEC-1, SPEC-4, SG-9500, DT-500, PL-570, RG-2, SR-303, and the two KLH processors.

That is such a great deal you got! Unbelievable! Get online or to salvation army and get yourself some tapes. Sit back and enjoy the magic. Congrats!

Dug out an old cassette I found in a box of stuff from High School. The CT-F1000 kind of works - if I fast forward or fast reverse the tape spins for a bit but then eventually stops before the tape is done. So, it appears there is certainly an issue with it. It makes strange noises from the inside... I am not keen on restoring gear with moving parts so this one will likely end up in someone elses hands. Oddly enough, this unit, the RT-707, and the TX-9500II all have stickers on the sides of a service center down the street from my house that I didn't even know existed. Maybe I can call them and give them the work order # on the sticker and they can tell me what was done to it...

(update) Play works great - fast forward and rewind not so much - any ideas?

Belts.

marrscommunications on the bay gets good marks from some here
tableterner on the bay is where I got belts recently
Might as well put belts in the reel machine, too.

I finally put the belt into the RT-909 I CLed recently. Works great Looking forward to evaluating all the CL tape I picked up.

Isn't this fun?

Congratulations on your purchase! I would replace the belts on the decks. That should do the trick.

Thanks for the tips, guys - I got a quote from Mike at radioXtuners to do an alignment on the TX-9500II once I finish recapping/upgrading it. Things are moving along!

The SPEC-2 and SPEC-4 are cosmetically clean now but I have to finish this SA-9100 on my bench before I can begin to restore them! I will remember to update with pics as things progress.

hey I see you are close to me. heck you could of used my old crapy suv as long as you filled the gas tank, but now it's way to late. hehe. I had one of those reverbs that i picked up at a yard sale this summer. picked up a pioneer system over in steelton not far from outdoor world this year for 15 dollars. speakers tuner amp reverb and some kind of dinamic sound prossesor. but no tape or reel to reel decks. I live in steelton pa.
