Pioneer SA-9800

I have a oppurtunity to buy Pioneer SA-9800.

I already have a SX-980 in mint condition.

Would this be considered a upgarde to the SX-980?

What do these units typically cost ballpark?

Thanks in advance.

I don’t too much about the 980 but the 9800 is TOTL. Most likely much better than the 980.
They are going for about 1500 to 2000 on eBay depending on condition. You always gotta worry about what’s going on inside them. They have so many bells and whistles that repairs can be costly. I love mine. The cartridge resistance and capacitance are nice to have. As long as you have an honest and reliable vintage electronics repair person you will be good. Should be about 400 to 500 dollars for full recap, etc. I got screwed twice by repair shops. Way overcharged. Now I have a vintage guy and I’m holding onto him with both hands. With my dual 550 watt SVS I only need around 1 to 5 watts, 10 if I’m not in my listening position, so lots of headroom. Love silverface Pioneer.
