Quaint Quips & Quotes!

illegitimi nil carborundum.

Translated to mean "Don't let the B@stards grind you down"

A good philosophy IMO.

From one I used to hear back in high school from the dad of one of my friends and one that still cracks me up:

"Go piss up a rope!"

I went through 8 pages and didn't see this one. For when you are frustrated about something or with someone:

s**t fire and save matches

Sorry if already posted

Don't think I have heard that one, Ausjoe!
Hmmmm! :scratch2:

Unique choice of words, indeed!

No you can say it, quite crude. I remember some mechanics would say that when I was a kid. They were WWII vets. Probably picked it up in the military but in what context don't know.

Actually... My grandmother used to say that :sigh: She could cuss like a sailor so I suppose that would fit.

A few of my favorites:

Couldn't fight their way out of a wet paperbag.

Can't tell their ass from a hole in ground.

Wish in one hand and sh*t in the other, see which one fills up first.

If wishes and but's were candy and nuts we'd all have a Merry Christmas.

Hi Sub!
First, I would like to once again say what a nice thing you & Tarl did for Justen. This place has some wonderful hearts & it never ceases to amaze me how someone will just be nice & take upon themselves the spirit of charity.
:thmbsp:

Yea, these are True Klassics, indeed.

Thanks Rome, but I can only take a tiny "quip" of credit. Tarl did 95% of the good deed doing. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. And Justen and his kids are great so I think I came out a winner all in all.

Credit where credit is do... so to speak

Rome,
Glad to see this fun thread has been revived, lot of humor to be had here. Interesting to see how the same meaning is expressed differently, depending on what region someone grew up in.

So here's another one for you all, spoken about a butt kisser at work, names are interchangeable:

"Dave is such a brown noser that when the boss smiles you can see Dave's eyes looking out from the back of his throat."

"I don't give a rats a$$"
"It's like pulling teeth"
"Higher than a kite"
"Looks like he's been hit with an ugly stick"
"Fish Belly White" - said about my families ghostly white skin
"like a fish out of water"
"Well he ain't whistling Dixie"
"If I had a dollar for every time I heard ...."

Its late and I just can't think, as I reread these pages lots of them came to mind but they left almost as fast.

Ahhh KT!
Thanks so muich for the kind sentiment. Yea, the other day, I decided to take a look at this thread & saw my last post gave a sentiment to maybe help someone cope.

I posted another quote & look out, it has been revived! :D

Now, those you submitted are Hall of Fame Klassics, indeed.
Man, if I a $1 for all the times I have heard these:
"Higher than a kite"
Looks like he's been hit with an ugly stick"

So ironic that I used your quote, "If I had a dollar for every time I heard ...."

Thanks,
Rome

"He left the room so fast I could light my cigarette on the door hinges"

Hi Hype!

If I had ben drinking a beverage at the time I read this one, I would have spit stuff all over my computer, keyboard, & monitor. That is pretty funny, indeed! :D:D
